5.0 out of 5 stars Great Way To Learn Vai's Fretwork On Dave's First Solo Album, March 30, 2008

Not all guitar tab books are created equal. The skill of the transcribers differs as does the accuracy of the editing. Some are really good, some are okay, and some are really bad. I'm going to put this book in the really good category. The tabs are extremely accurate, with logical fingerings, and I haven't found any mistakes either. I would say if you have intermediate guitar skills this book should be no problem to work through. The most difficult solo being on the song Big Trouble. Vai pulls of a really nice tapped run at the end of the solo that will take a bit of practice to memorize and get up to speed.

Good stuff! I always loved this album, it's very representative of David Lee Roth the person. It has a great mix of different styles, from blues, to jazz, to straight up rock. The pairing of Billy Sheehan and Vai was genius. Dave was a smart enough man to know to get the best hired guns for his first album, and he made a statement with Eat 'Em and Smile. If memory serves me right, this album came out the same time Van Halens 5150 was released, and this one kicked the crap out of that album in every way possible. Van Halen will always be Eddie, Alex, Anthony, and Dave. I pretend as though the Hager albums and the one Cherone album never happened, like some sort of bad nightmare.

Anyway, great fun to work through the tunes in this book. Sadly it would be Dave's best solo album, as the follow-up Skyscraper was a big disappointment.
