Book Description

March 17, 2008
David, a small Swedish-American boy, lived in Sweden. He had a Swedish grandmother, “Farmor,” who lived in Sweden, and an American grandmother, “Mormor,” who lived in the United States. When David was two and a half, Mormor gave him a wooden animal alphabet puzzle just for David and Mormor to play with together. David loved putting the puzzle together, from the Alligator (for “A”) to the Zebra (for “Z”), and playing with his alphabet animals. David called the puzzle “Horno” and was sad when Mormor took Horno to the United States and he had to wait for her next visit to play with Horno again. David asked Mormor on every telephone call about what the animals were doing. Then, when David visited the United States, a disaster occurred; the Yak (“Y”) got lost! David was very worried. Was the Yak lonely, hungry? His telephone conversations with Mormor were all about the Yak. Mormor had to find the Yak for David!

5.0 out of 5 stars An original!, September 6, 2008
This review is from: David, Mormor, Horno and the Yak: An Alphabet Mystery (Paperback)
Here is a wonderfully happy story of a young boy, his Mormor (grandmother), and his favorite toy. Parents and children will both relate to David's attachment to his favorite toy, the sadness upon discovering a missing piece, and the lengths a loving grownup will go to in order to replace that piece. The book is charmingly illustrated with photographs of David and his family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Engaging and tender tale, August 27, 2008

This review is from: David, Mormor, Horno and the Yak: An Alphabet Mystery (Paperback)
This is the moving story of young David and his grandmother "Mormor" whose relationship is preserved in a wooden alphabet puzzle that they play with during each visit. When one of the pieces is lost, Mormor pays tribute to her grandson's imagination and his attachment to the puzzle with an ingenious solution. The photographs of the puzzle and its affectionate fans bring the story to life beautifully. This is an original and heartfelt book for young children.

5.0 out of 5 stars a very creative way to bond with young grandchildren, August 17, 2008
By
This review is from: David, Mormor, Horno and the Yak: An Alphabet Mystery (Paperback)
This is a delighgtful children's book, especially for grandparents who want to keep in close touch with young grandchildren living in another city, state or country. Carol Popper tells her personal story of creating a very special bond with her grandson David by bringing him his hand-carved wooden alphabet animal puzzle every time she visits him in Sweden from the US. The alphabet mystery shows how easy it is to share many special moments with a grandchild by using love and imagination even if you are separated by oceans.
