This book is a beautiful facsimile edition of the 30-ft-long continuous drawing in markers and gouache that the great artist David Park created in the last year of his life. It depicts places and characters throughout the painter's life. Park essentially founded the California school of figurative painting in the 1940s, influencing Neri, Diebenkorn, Bischoff, and others. He also transformed the ordinary into great painting. Although the painter was dieing of cancer when he created the scroll and too sick to paint in oils, the scroll is a hymn to the energy and diversity of life.
