5.0 out of 5 stars Readable, Interesting History!
This book is straightforward and highly informative. The author does an exceptional job of putting General Petraeus' life and professional accomplishments in the context of broader events. It's not a tell-all and doesn't seek to be. Rather it explains his life and especially the Iraq War. Students, those interested in military history, and readers simply looking for a...

Students, those interested in military history, and readers simply looking for a good telling of the story behind a prominent US military leader, will enjoy this book. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worthy of the highest recommendation for military biography, public, and college library shelves, January 14, 2011
David Petraeus: A Biography is the life story of the American general who turned the course of the ongoing war in Iraq around with his implemented plan for a "surge". Written by military historian and army strategist Bradley T. Gericke, David Petraeus: A Biography traces Petraeus' life from growing up in New York to his service in the 101st Airborne Division to his controversy with the MoveOn website, to his efforts to counter sectarian violence not only through military but also through social and legal means. A handful of black-and-white photographs illustrate this exceptional account of a leader who successful approached complex warfare on multiple fronts - military, diplomatic, economic, and informational. David Petraeus: A Biography is worthy of the highest recommendation for military biography, public, and college library shelves.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good book for any library, February 8, 2011
This is a good book about America's most famous general. The chapters that examine the war in Iraq are interesting, and provide an overview of the kind of war confronted by the US military. The writing is smart with lots of facts and the story moves quickly. Anyone wanting to learn all about General Petraeus and the most important military events of recent times will benefit from this book.
