David the Man, February 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: David: Power, Lust and Betrayal in Bibical Times (Hardcover)
Jerry M. Landay created a vivid portrait of David. I enjoyed the biographical nature of the book, it gave an even protrait of this remarkable man. From his humble beginnings as a shepard to his annointment as king. I was fasinated by the process David took in forging the nation of Isreal, and raising it to be the dominant power. What I enjoyed the most about Mr. Landay's book was his ability to venerate David's achievement, but also recognize his human qualities. David became a historical figure for me, no longer was he just a myth. I also enjoyed Mr. Landay's style, his journalistic background was evident, he was able to tell the story of David concisely with out weighing the book down in superflous details. If you enjoy historical biographies I recommeded this book highly. I enjoyed it quite a bit.
