Biography

DAVID SANBORN – ONLY EVERYTHING BIO

“Among the great saxophonists of the past four decades,” says one Rolling Stone writer, “David Sanborn has earned an identity all his own. He’s jazz, he’s funk, he’s soul, he’s pop, he’s blues, he’s rock. Most remarkably, he excels in each of these genres with a voice that is both forceful and tender, sensuous and subtle.”

Editorial Reviews

This album is one of David Sanborn's better early recordings. Although the record is perhaps best known for the altoist's version of Paul Simon's "I Do It For Your Love," Sanborn's playing on some of the other cuts (most notably "Mamacita" and "7th Avenue") finds him really stretching within the R&B/crossover genre. Only "Smile" (which has some mundane vocalizing) is a minus, and it is more than compensated for by Sanborn's passionate improvising elsewhere. -All Music Guide

5.0 out of 5 stars My FAVORITE Sanborn!, August 21, 2006
This review is from: David Sanborn (Audio CD)
I first heard this on vinyl thirty years ago as a college freshman, and it's part of my life's soundtrack. I totally agree with the review from 'a music fan.' "Sophisticated Squaw" alone is worth the purchase. Also, "Smile" is some of the most bluesy, jazzy, romantic sax I've ever heard... If you don't like anything else on the album except those two pieces, you'll still be well ahead by owning it (although you will love the rest of the it)! That is, if you can find it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Boy playin' his heart out ain't he?, August 31, 2007
This review is from: David Sanborn (Audio CD)
Years ago I was playing this at work and a co-worker asked me who that was. I told him David Sanborn. He said, "The boy playing his heart out ain't he?" That really sums it up. My sister and I played Smile totally out. To this day for many reasons that song is still my favorite Sanborn.

5.0 out of 5 stars Concrete Boogie!, August 11, 2009
This review is from: Sanborn (MP3 Download)
Every time I hear Concrete Boogie, it still feels like the first time. The superb musicianship on this early Sanborn is extraordinary. I used to go see Mark Russo cover this song in any excellent early band of his: Omega Rhythm Section, in the Bay Area, California in the early 80's. Been a huge Sanborn fan ever since!
