I am such a fan of Shannon's work! GREAT illustrations, simple vocabulary, totally amusing stories that pre-school or primary grade children can really identify with PLUS no matter how outrageous David's behavior each book ends with the assurance that while we might deplore the behavior...we always LOVE the child. Absolutely excellent on all levels!

I bought this book for my 2 year old daughter hesitant at first that she was too old for it. When we got it she fell in love with it. She knew who David was from previous books we've read about him. This book is really well written and has great illustrations to help a young child understand their five senses. After just reading it a few times with her she now opens it up and points to her body parts as she sees them in the picture. For example when they show taste they show a sucker with bugs and trash stuck to it. And she'll say "Ew! Don't eat David". It gives room to discuss things a child should and should not do.

There is something special about David books. Maybe it is the simplicity of the words but my 1 year old son is absolutely in love with them. He has four of them and always reaches for the David books over any other book that he has. He has tons of them too that have been passed down from siblings. They basically have just a couple of words on each page and you read them in about 20 seconds but the pictures add life to the short story. My son will sit and flip through these books on his own throughout the day. He gets a kick out of these.

My 17 month old boy LOVES these books - belly laughing, pointing, smiling, babbling as we read together. The negative reviews seem to be from an adult's perspective only and not based on their baby's reaction to the books. Yes the drawings are a bit odd, but not to my toddler. And if those weird drawings get him excited about reading, then so be it! And yes, the books are extremely simple but these are meant for VERY young children. He likes to turn the page within 3 seconds, so 2 words total is perfect at this age. In my opinion, it's as thought the author was able to climb inside the mind of a baby somehow and create the perfect book.(And P.S. David and his cute little antics are a pretty darn good representation of a typical baby/toddler boy. :-) )

I bought this book for my 22 month old son and he loves it. My 7 year old son loves the David books and when i saw the diaper David books I had to get them for my youngest!

My grandaughter loves these Oh David books, they are well built and sure to last a long time. I am planning on getting her the entire collection.

My daughter thinks that "David Smells" is hilarious. We go over the 5 senses together, and she gets excited before we even get to the "stinky" page - when we do reach it, she says, "stinky!"

I don't understand the negativity over the book. yes the sketches are rough (they're SKETCHES for pete's sake), and the book is short. But it teaches the 5 senses and we find the illustrations and details endearing.

Not sure why people are talking about a "poo"? Our book does not have that.

My husband, myself, and our 2.5 yr old son loves this book! I highly recommend it! It has lots of tags!

Several months ago I was reading to my youngest child (2yo) and he ran over to his book shelf and grabbed "Oh David." I was amazed at his attention to this particular book. He absolutely loved the illustrations! They appear somewhat different to an adult, given the way David's head is shaped and his pointed teeth, but children love it. Come to find out, my 4yo loves these books as well. We've sinced purchased most of the David books offered. I was going to buy the doll, but given its size I thought the price was a bit steep. The books, however, will be treasured by your children.
