Three fine releashes and not one is currently available. First signed on RCA, "Whiz Kid" followed in many ways the style but not the outrageousness of label mate, early David Bowie. His second "Imagination Quota"(?), also begged comparison with the ever evolving Bowie. By the time that "David Werner" came out on another label, he decided to rock out more main stream.
Opening with Can't Imagine, a track that just takes off in a power pop blast complete with screeching guitars ala Mick Ronson. Steamy piano drives What's Right, like something right out of Ian Hunter's songlist. Crunchy bass and guitars unite to drive What Do You Need To Love. Melanie Cries follows, slowly building into a magnificient love song. Each song throbs with bass and and power throughout. Eye To Eye, Hold On Tight, Every New Romance and Too Late To Try mine this same vein. The album closes with She Sent Me Away, a song that tugs at your heart strings.
If you love 80's rock, this would play very well next to groups like The Cars, Cheap Trick and yes... Let's Dance by David Bowie.
