Am Anfang stehen zeitgenössische prodynastische Quellentexte, die noch unter Salomos Herrschaft zu einem Gründungsdokument der beginnenden Dynastie redigiert wurden. Mehrere umfassende Nachbearbeitungen bis ins 3. Jh. v. Chr. reflektieren intensive theologische Debatten. Dabei verleiht eine Redaktion im Zeichen des Tat-Ergehen-Zusammenhanges dem Text sein theologisches Profil. Dadurch ergeben sich wesentlich neue Erkenntnisse über Israels frühe Königszeit.
