Product Description
Young people in East Africa face a lot of difficulties. Maybe like youth everywhere, they struggle with decisions about smoking and drinking, about sexual purity and pornography, honesty and integrity. But besides choices about those issues, youth in East Africa also wrestle with what to do about tribalism, severe unemployment, stealing, stewardship of the environment, and honorable Christian weddings. As these young people step into life, they will likely turn to strategies based on generations of despair. Can anything be done to change the culture of doubt and helplessness? What will give them hope?
Oneal Tankersley served as a missionary in Eldoret, Kenya for 20 years among Kalenjin and Swahili speaking peoples. His answer to the first question, about change, is Yes. Christ certainly can change people and culture. To help answer the question of how to give them hope, Oneal wrote 'David's Tumaini Hotel', a book of ten stories designed to lead young people in a new direction.
For Kenyans, a hotel is a tea house, where customers gather to talk about situations and events in their lives, and to ask questions about doing the right thing. David and his wife are Christians who operate the Tumaini Hotel (Tumaini is Swahili for hope). They take the opportunity to give godly counsel to their customers.
So, come for a visit and stop in for a warm cup of chai at David's Tuamini Hotel. While you are there, listen and become a part of the interesting day to day experiences of the youths and their mentors as they face the adventures and challenges of life.
Literature And Teaching Ministries has helped fund 2000 copies of the book, which have been distributed to schools throughout much of Kenya. They are estimating to need at least 5000 more copies to cover all the other schools in Kenya. Literature And Teaching Ministries is partnering with Good News Productions International to print 10,000 more copies. In making this book available on Kindle from Amazon, all of the proceeds we receive from your purchase will go to fund more 'David's Tumaini Hotel' books for youths in East Africa.
