5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic addition to your Davis Weather Station
I have been a fan of Davis Instruments Weather products for years. I have a Vantage Pro that I purchased several years back and used WeatherLink and a PC to create a web site to see the weather at my home. Earlier this year I turned that PC off to save power and with the winter weather I missed the web site I created. But with this great addition I was able to just...

3.0 out of 5 stars Davis WeatherLink IP Software, February 18, 2011
This review is from: Davis WeatherLink IP Software for Vantage Pro and Weather Envoy (Sports)
I have owned several Davis weather stations. Each of them has performed flawlessly. My current model is the Wireless Vantage Pro. I download my station data to my weather underground and CWOP accounts. In order to do this I was using the serial data link cable. This required my computer to stay online 24 hours a day. I recently purchased the Davis WeatherLinkIP Software for Vantage Pro and Weather Envoy. The WeatherLinkIP LAN connection was extremely easy to hook up. Once installed the station data upload to the Davis web site was immediate. The Davis weather site will quickly connect to the weather underground site and CWOP once your account information is entered. The downside of this product is the data that is uploaded to these websites is not of the same high quality/frequency that the serial link provides. The serial link provided 3-5 minute download intervals and could be adjusted. The WeatherLinkIP has an extremely sporadic download frequency as high as an hour and is not adjustable. Max wind gusts are no longer reported as well. Nowhere in the literature are these performance limitations discussed. I have spent $300 expecting the same high quality performance that I have experienced with other Davis products. I am extremely disappointed and will be reinstalling the serial data link. I have questioned Davis directly about my concerns and was told there are no plans to make any changes to the product.

Earlier this year I turned that PC off to save power and with the winter weather I missed the web site I created. But with this great addition I was able to just plug it into my home network and immediately I was able to go to the Web and see the weather at my home... Amazingly easy! I did not have to fuss with my network, just register on line and use it... Simple and Amazing.

When I buy a product which needs connection to the internet, I'm always nervous because my experience has shown me that it NEVER works as advertised.

Well, these guys have proven me wrong. It did work and it worked on the first time. VERY simple and reliable set-up. I am using a satellite connection to the internet and everything went as smooth as it can.

The whole system including the weather station was easy to assemble and still works very well.

GREAT job.

Horrible 1980's software appearance and interface. Should be offered free when purchasing any Davis weather station.

They are the only game in town if you purchase a Davis Instrument so competition should take aim.

3.0 out of 5 stars Overpriced, but works most of the time, November 3, 2011
This review is from: Davis WeatherLink IP Software for Vantage Pro and Weather Envoy (Sports)
I bought the WeatherLinkIP data logger for my Vantage Vue weather station, despite its extremely high price tag of $230. I figured it would be easier than learning how to post the data online another way, and it allows me to have it running 24/7 without being hooked up to a running computer. Since getting the data logger a year ago, I have never lost any data, even when there were power outages; this is because the weather console runs on back-up batteries, allowing the data logger to continue to log the data. However, when I try to use the WeatherLink software on my computer to retrieve the data, I often (about 40% of the time) have to try it more than once because the connection times out; this happens once in a while with the web download option, and more frequent with the slower direct IP option. It was also confusing to set everything up so my WeatherLink software could see it; it wasn't just plug-and-play. I am the type of person to thoroughly read instructions and follow them to a T, so I rarely need tech support. Fortunately though, the Davis tech guy on the phone was able to help me set it up correctly.

To summarize:
PROS:
never any data loss (yet)
updates data online without needing to be connected to a computer
good tech support

CONS:
way overpriced
difficult to set up
frequent retries to retrieve data to WeatherLink software

Our son-in-law suggested that we buy this as a birthday present for our daughter. They were going on a month long trip, and while they were away they wanted to be able to know the weather at their home that is in a hurricane danger zone. This product allows them to do this. It is working fine, and I know they would recommend it as a part of the Davis Weatherlink system.

Works great. Easy setup. Davis tech support is excellent. It's nice to be able to log into
my Davis Vantage View weather station from anywhere anytime. I also like the map feature on
the Weatherlink.com web site where you can log into any weather station that's on the network
worldwide.

Basically I plugged this IP connector into the back of my Davis Vantage Pro 2 console, connected the other end of the WeatherLinkIP Cat5 cable to my router and I was in business. I went to the Davis website [...], registered my WeatherlinkIP, and had my own weather page 5 minutes later...very cool, definitely recommended.

I wish I would have discovered scientificsales dot com first,
