5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Album, May 15, 2004
By Kay (Cobalt, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
I love this album. Damhnait is original and definately one of my favorite female artists. My only complaint is that the album doesn't do the experience of seeing Damhnait live justice. I love to listen to rock but this album is great for those days that i feel like listening to something a little mellower.

2.0 out of 5 stars All about hype, less about being good., February 17, 2004
By a music fan (London, ON) - See all my reviews
To be honest I don't really understand why the ECMAs gave this record so much attention in comparison to such stellar must-own albums like "You Are What You Love" by Melanie Doane. "Davnet" is folk-pop dribble with so many snoozers on it it's not really worth the selling price. "Another California Song" and "Traffic" are probably the only two songs with potential mass appeal while most of the record is acoustic ballads or midtempo attempts at songwriting which fail to develop to their full potential. If you like the "hit" singles you might like the record, but I only slightly liked them and they are the only songs which I can listen to on this record without skipping to the next track half way through. This record is all about East Coast hype and not about actually being good. Seriously, if you're looking for smart pop, check out Melanie Doane. She always delivers and unfortunately rarely gets the hype.

5.0 out of 5 stars Damhnait does it again!, March 2, 2003
This is an absolutely fabulous album. It incorperates all that makes Damhnait an amazing artist. There are great hooks, beautiful lyrics, and the incredible power of her voice is demonstrated even more here than in the past. The 3 part song "sinking stone" starts the record off. It is purposefully recorded with horrible sound quality to lower expectations and at the end of that 54 seconds, "Another California Song" kicks everything into motion, and sets you up for a well-polished, enjoyably diverse album. From the energy packed "Deal With God", which starts out slow and suddenly bursts into power(sort of like Alanis Morissette`s Ironic), to the beautiful, classic-feeling "Afterglow", and the wonderfully original "Traffic", the Billboard top 10-worthy "Butterfly" and my personal favourite "Is it Right?". Every song on here is of high quality and this is definately an album that repays repeated listening. Especially for anyone who enjoys Jewel. Even if you don't, it is likely you will genuinely enjoy this cd. If you have a chance, pick it up, and find out why Damhnait is Canada's most underrated artist.
