2.0 out of 5 stars Would be excellent with a FEW auditory cues
-- Dewey Yung explains at the beginning that "Dawei Cardio Kickboxing" (1999) is for advanced kickboxers, so he does not want to bore us with talk. A serious, advanced workout without "motivational" chit-chat is a great idea, but the complete absence of auditory cues makes for some problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars A WONDERFULLY DIFFERENT APPROACH!, November 9, 1999
This review is from: Dawei Cardio Kickboxing [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This video is the fourth in my library of aero/kick boxing fitness videos, and is very quickly becoming my favorite! It is extremely challenging at first, but if you have some experience and are serious about mastering the movements, you quickly become comfortable with the moves and can master the techniques. I am now working out four days a week doing aero and kickboxing and have noticed a TREMENDOUS change in my body AND my mind. I feel strong and confident, yet feel enlightened enough to stay humble and quietly stable. I rest every other day, with only two of my workout days being back to back and I feel incredibly strong and look lean and sexy in all of my clothes. I'm 33 and can wear all of the sexy and cute fashions out on the market! My husband is VERY happy with my new workout and loves to watch every now and again. He is awed by the strength and agility I've developed since doing this workout alone. It has improved my form for my other three workout tapes. I love this workout and recommend it to EVERYONE who is SERIOUS about keeping fit both physically AND emotionally.

5.0 out of 5 stars How cool! Can't believe I found this video - thanks Amazon!, November 10, 1999

I've been working out for years in my home due to my hectic schedule. Last year I took up Tae Bo along with millions of others but I became bored easily - in searching for a more challenging workout I found Dawei and I love it! The fact that I don't have to listen to someone screaming in the camera and I can concentrate on my form and techique while listening to incredible music has taken my ability to do cardio kickboxing to the next level. Dawei is truly a workout that will never bore me and keep me really fit! Don't hesitate to try it, it is worth every penny and more!

4.0 out of 5 stars WOW! WHAT A WORK OUT!, January 4, 2000
This review is from: Dawei Cardio Kickboxing [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I love this new form of workout! I have been doing taebo for 3 years now and have even been in the new live! series videos and thought I was in tip top shape well let me tell you ..... This video completely blew me away. I love this new approach, 45 minutes with this guy is like 2 hours of any other kickboxing. This is great, I can already see my body changing again(more lean muscle mass) and I didn't think it was possible. I recommend it for anyone that is on the intermediate to advanced level. Beginners this in not for you but anyone can work up to this level and do it! Great video and instruction.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT advanced workout!, April 9, 2001

This review is from: Dawei Cardio Kickboxing [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This tape is NOT for beginners, or anyone who wants a lot of talking, cueing, slow-motion or explanation. It's hard-core kickboxing, and Dewey Yung expects you to already know the moves, how to kick and punch, the proper form, etc. So if you don't know these things, this tape isn't for you. But if you're a kickboxing workout veteran, this should really get you going. The combinations are fast and relatively complex (at least compared to Kathy Smith's Kickboxing Workout and Tae Bo)- I can't keep up with them half of the time, but I just started this workout. You have to build up to it, at your own pace. Guaranteed to make you sweat like a pig :Þ

5.0 out of 5 stars Intense & Incredible!, March 2, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Dawei Cardio Kickboxing [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I had never heard of Dawei or Dewey Yung, and bought this video based solely on the strength of other customer's reviews. I could not be more pleased! Here's the breakdown: THE INSTRUCTOR: All action, no yakking. FABULOUS! Great form. I especially like the "slow-motion" demonstrations, on both right and left sides, prior to starting a new move. Gives a repetition count (works both right & left evenly), and a visual reminder to keep moving during the transitions. THE SET: A bit spartan. Looks like an old warehouse. I really like the projection on the wall behind him. Helps you see what he's doing when the camera angle changes. THE MUSIC: Pretty good. Sounds like a "Mortal Combat" game, but not obnoxious. My only complaint is that it looks as if the music was added after the taping, because he is OFF beat more often than not (mildly annoying for me since I have had 18yrs dance training---but I'm getting over it quickly). Most of the time I am so focused on doing the moves that I don't notice, anyway. THE WORKOUT: Proper warm-up...no fast neck rolls. Eases into the workout, which gets progressively more complex. VERY CHALLENGING aerobically. He's not kidding when he says (during the introduction) that this is for people at an intermediate level of cardio kickboxing. NOT FOR BEGINNERS. I have been doing advanced Tae-Bo for a while & found this somewhat difficult for the first week. THE COOL-DOWN: The move to the floor is a bit abrupt, but he makes up for it with excellent stretches. THE VERDICT: Buy this video. I think it is worth every cent. Can't wait for him to put out another.

-- The stretches in the warm-up and cool-down are impossible to do in the correct position, because you must watch the TV to know when to move to the next stretch.
-- The teaching technique for the eleven kicking/punching combinations is good -- a little video preview shows each combination in advance. The advanced level makes for a great workout. However, in any exercise video, especially one with no verbal counting, the beat of the music should be synchronized with the moves. The music is good, but the beat does NOT match the moves. It is easier to follow with the TV on the MUTE setting.
-- The camera occasionally moves behind a large concrete pillar, so you cannot see Dewey Yung at all. At other times, it only shows his feet, even though there are hand movements you should be following. If you can't see him or hear him, why not just turn off the TV entirely and do this workout from a book?
-- Dewey Yung, if you are out there, please re-issue this video with 1) music whose beat matches the moves, 2) OCCASIONAL verbal cues during the stretches, and 3) counting, at least the first time through each combination. Then I will give the workout 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great workout for the Advanced Exerciser!, May 8, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Dawei Cardio Kickboxing [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Dawei Cardio Kickboxing is the absolutely best cardio workout I have ever done. It is very challenging and will make you feel like you have had a great workout. With all my other workout tapes I always felt like I wasn't doing enough, like I wasn't really being challenged. I didn't have that problem with this video. I am looking for more videos by Dewey Yung. If, however, you are a beginner, do not get this video because it moves at a vert fast pace and will be too much to start out with.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Kickboxing Tape Ever!!, November 11, 2000
This review is from: Dawei Cardio Kickboxing [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have been kickboxing for about 5 years and this is the tape I have been waiting for! It's perfect for kickboxing enthusiasts. The only tapes I have found that come close are those from Ciavideo.com. A word of warning, this is not for the faint of heart. You must have kickboxing experience and an advanced exerciser for this tape. Beginners should not even attempt it. He gives no verbal instruction at all during the tape so you need to have prior knowledge before trying this tape. But for the advanced level kickboxers out there you MUST have this tape!

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT WORK OUT - GREAT MUSIC - FINALLY A WORKOUT WITH FLUFF!, September 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Dawei Cardio Kickboxing [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have worked out to many videos but this one is really great. I was surprised that finally someone understood that there was no need for needless chatter! It is really great and the music is amazing! Execution was perfect, easy to follow but really challenging! No more Tae Bo for me! Get this one - you'll be really happy you did. Who ever thought of this format should be congratulated.
