3.0 out of 5 stars Wishful thinking
My review is titled 'wishful thinking' because I had hoped to delve into family Cherokee ancestry. Even if I am to find an ancestor who is registered in the Dawes Roll, there is little to no explanation of the various columns that follow that name. There is probably some obscure printed guide that will explain what I am looking at. The spiral bound, paper back book...

3.0 out of 5 stars Wishful thinking, July 26, 2011

My review is titled 'wishful thinking' because I had hoped to delve into family Cherokee ancestry. Even if I am to find an ancestor who is registered in the Dawes Roll, there is little to no explanation of the various columns that follow that name. There is probably some obscure printed guide that will explain what I am looking at. The spiral bound, paper back book arrived in a white paper envelope. On both sides of the book there was a piece of corrugated card board. That cardboard's dimensions weren't as wide or long as the book. When I opened the envelope I was, and am, upset that one corner of the book is all bent. The 'protective' card board was bent, also. Was this the fault of rough handling during shipment? Yes. I am sure it wasn't packed that way. Could it have been better packaged? You better believe it could have.

I just wanted to say that I agree with what the reviewer named Mary had to say. I am researching my own Cherokee ancestry and would like to buy the Dawes Rolls but can't afford to pay that much for a book just now. I'll buy it someday but it does irritate me that it costs so much.
I think it should be publicly available to anyone who wants to read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ignorant People, April 18, 2009
This review is from: Dawes Roll Plus of the Cherokee Nation (Spiral-bound)
For you cheap, ignorant people out there, this book is available to the public for free, it's called you local Public Library. If your local library does not have a copy (very likely) they can request an inter-library loan for you. The United States National Archives, who holds the original documents that have been reproduced in this book charge $25 an inquiry or single name reference, where as here you can buy the entire collection, which is a huge convenience for those of us searching for our geneological record. Remember when you point a finger there are three pointing back at you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Native Americans, will they forgive us for what we have done, August 18, 2000

I have resently looked into my family Genealogy. It pains me to say that I was appaulled at some of the things I have read on The Native American History. I mean they have to be number to be able to have they're own land and resources. Why have the White people been so untruthful? They have almost taken back everything that was promised to the Native Americans. It seems to me that it should be the other way around cause this is the land of The Natives, not the whites. I understand the rebellion of the Natives when the White men came and took what belonged to them. They were only protecting their lands just like you or I would today. It does not matter to anyone but the Natives it seems, for now the Goverment is taking back everything which was promised even though they had no rights at all. It is very sad that someone looking for their heritage has to pay any where from $25.00 to $50.00 for a book that should not even exsist. I am not saying anything bad about your site. All I am saying is that it is sad that we can't love one another enough to realize we have wronged people and we should stop it now instead of keeping the pain in another persons heart that does'nt deserve no more pain and sorrow. We have done enough of that to ourselves and one day we will have to answer to that. God Bless you and I will pray for you.
