What fun!,

This is a delightful collection of latin/jazz. Even those who normally tire of latin music will love this entire CD. The instrumentation and arrangements are a joy.

Dawanova is DGQ's Perfection,

All the David Grisman Quintet's C.D.s are good and enjoyable, but with this one, they finally achieved perfection. Every song is one you want to listen to again and again and each time you do, you hear a note or a run that you never heard before. The addition of Matt Eakle and his flute was one of the best things David Grisman did for his music. Eakle gives the exactly right sound for blend and offset of the stringed instruments. Whoever you are and whatever kind of music you like, you cannot listen to this C.D. and not thoroughly enjoy it.

Absolutely beautiful,

My favorite David Grisman CD (so far). It stayed in my cd player for at least 2 weeks upon purchase, and is still a frequent listen. Every song is beautiful arranged and perfectly played. All of the musicians are just amazing. You can listen to this at any time of day or night and its just as good. Less bluegrass than his other works. Really the DGQ playing straight up latin jazz. Lots of flute and mandolin unison melodies. Crazy percussion. Blindingly fast solos. Just Awesome. Even people that don't like jazz or acoustic music like this one.

What Next? Yanni/Kenny G/Michael Bolton/Celine Dion?,

Let me say up front that I could make all ten of my Desert Island choices from the Grisman/Rice catalog. And I really like this album, it's a surprise (not really, given the quality of the musicians) that their adaptation of these south-of-the-border rhythms is beautiful.
It's that damned flute! I find myself cringing in anticipation of the moments when it intrudes its incongruously frilly tones into this beautiful, moody music. For me the flute takes this otherwise beautiful music into the New Age/Lite Jazz realm, with images of skipping children, butterflies, and down blowing across sunlit fields... Argh! Stifle that gag reflex! Some like the addition of the flute - me, I'd edit it out...if not for the flute, this would be a "5" rating...

And let's not forget the engineering on this one....,

I like the music just as much as the other reviewers, but I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the superb sound quality of this recording. If you have a stereo capable of doing the disc justice, you'll be stunned at its realism and depth. And the balance is far more natural than that on most of the stuff coming from the major labels--Grisman is not boosting the treble to give the sound artificial sizzle. Kudos!
