2.0 out of 5 stars The Testament
I knew what the author was trying to do in this book and I respect him for that, but in my oppinion, the book appeared to be hurried. The author has several excellent characters in the book, the best is Demon, a lean, mean, negro killing machine, who I would have liked to have read more about in the book. The author appeared to put a lot of thought into the book but...

I knew what the author was trying to do in this book and I respect him for that, but in my oppinion, the book appeared to be hurried. The author has several excellent characters in the book, the best is Demon, a lean, mean, negro killing machine, who I would have liked to have read more about in the book. The author appeared to put a lot of thought into the book but seemed to have a lot of difficulty with expressing his ideas and quite simply, the book lacked the energy that it needed to make it the extraordinary story that I had expected it to be. The book, eventhough filled with several twists and turns, I think, is very predictable, and the ending went just as I had expected. In short, the author does have skills, but unfortunetly, this is not the novel that they are best displayed.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not quite sure..., July 11, 2007
This review is from: Road Dawgz (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
I didn't really like this book. Part of the reason is because I've read 4 of K'wan's later work and REALLY liked them. This was his second book and you can tell. It started off too slow and took too long to get to the action. When the action did start, however, it was good. You have to wait until the end of the book and that is why I didn't it.

I was wondering what his earlier work was like... and now I know. I won't be reading his 1st book but I will be reading what he puts out next. If anything, this shows how much an author can grow over time. It says this book was put out in 2003. You think they would have fixed all the typos and mis-spelled words in FOUR years!!!

I'm not a teacher or anything but the mistakes were glaring and embarassing. Also, when I'm really pushing to get my customers to read stories by Black authors this doesn't help at all. The first printing... maybe. 4 years down the line is just plain stupid!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars The Hood Book???, October 16, 2003

I'm really tired of our people having a limited imagination when it comes to writing. The Hood, Ghetto, Pimps and guns... is that all you have to offer? I read novels every day and will not recommend Road Dawgz to my Sons or anyone of my students.

5.0 out of 5 stars Roll With The Dawgz Or Get Rolled Over!!, April 4, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Road Dawgz (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
Road Dawgz is my first book from this author but will definitely not be my last. This book was a quick read, not boring at all. At times you'll find yourself feeling bad for Keshawn and can see why he has to have it all but then you'll also see his selfishness. Everyone in his life is there for one reason - to keep him on top. That is the reality of the fast life. I'm glad that K'wan showed that the Road Dawgz may have gotten fast money but where did the majority of them end up? This book should be required reading for some of our young black males that fall victims to these streets. You may be on top one minute but you best believe it doesn't stay that way. These cats had to constantly watch their backs so how can you enjoy the fruits of your labor in that manner? Good book K'wan. I'll definitely go back and read Gangsta just on the strength of Road Dawgz. Keep 'em coming!!

This story was great. I am truly a fan of K'wan's writing style. As usual, his style is so REAL, so VIVID, it just holds you captive. He uses phrases like, "we financing trips to hell" and "the cause of your troubles is a f@#king ghost"...It's humorous and very serious at the same time. I just love it. If you're a fan of Kwan, there is not one of his novels that you should go without reading, especially this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars This is for all the Ghetto Kids, May 5, 2008
This review is from: Road Dawgz (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
A fanatical crusade is sweeping the city up North, and it's not Santa Claus but the presents that are being handed out are coming down like football numbers. This new ethics code is making it impossible for all the average elves to help out and make a quick buck. But K-Dawg isn't any ordinary elf. He's gone to ball or fall and the only present he is willing take is the fruits of having a penthouse status or ending up at the morgue. With his Road Dawgz he seeks to achieve it all and as Top Dawg he's dead set on getting it no matter what without looking back.
Every ghetto has at least one K-Dawg or many but Road Dawgz displays how many fall victim to the streets that has no love for no one. I got past the errors but I got a bit confused when Gutter and Lou-Loc made a cameo appearance because Lou-Loc meets his maker previously in Gangsta. Through it all those who are loyal prosper, while those that go against the grain are bound to suffer. Find out will he make to the big league or will the dawg be headed to the South Pole carried by six.
