5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful & Lyrical May 19, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Anna Elliot molds a well-known legend into something unique and beautiful. Her voice sweeps you into the plot and keeps you there. After finishing this short story, I wasn't sure if I was thrilled that someone came up with the idea of Merlin & Morgana as lovers, or sad that it wasn't turned into a full novel. This is the first work of Ms. Elliot's I've read, and I know that with this marvelous prequel, it won't be the last.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful short story! May 13, 2011
By L.B.D.
Format:Kindle Edition
Having read Twilight of Avalon, if I could have chosen another story to have Anna Elliott tell, this would have been it. It is a perfect prequel to her novels, telling of the brief love between Morgan and Merlin. Here's hoping she expands it to a full-length book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't work for me February 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I tried reading this book and simply got lost on who was speaking and what was happening. First person narratives in fiction can be quite cumbersome unless done well and this was not well done. I was unable to finish this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you loved Mists of Avvalon ... June 22, 2011

Short and sweet. This writer gets alot said without a lot of uninspiring information. This one hooked me. Her next installment, The Witch Queen's Secret sealed my fate. I will read more by Anna Elliott.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good for what it is November 27, 2011
By Allie
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
As far as free romance novels go, this one is fine. Morgan is sympathetic overall, though I found her oddly moody and unnatural at moments (eg kicking a battered man in the ribs then immediately apologizing for losing her temper). The allusions to later points in the Camelot story line seemed a bit forced to me. The author had a lot of ideas that could have worked, but many of those ideas weren't developed which left me feeling cheated.

I had some serious issues identifying with the characters, mostly because none of the characters grow throughout the story. The story spans about a week so this is partially understandable, but there are ways around that. I also enjoy a villain I can identify with and the author left all villain development to lore.

The editing on this, while not perfect, is much better than other free novels for Kindle. The story flows in a satisfying way and is self consistent. You're definitely in this one for the plot, not the inner struggles of the characters, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I had to give it a 2 because, for me, it didn't deliver what I wanted. I wasn't transported and I didn't get enough emotion from the characters. Having said that, the plot is interesting enough and it is edited well, so it could easily be enjoyable to others. Just consider what you want before downloading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing glimpse into Aurthurian tale July 3, 2011
By Sarah
Format:Kindle Edition
Before they were famous, Merlin and Morgan le Fay were young. This is the story of the day they met and saved the kingdom they knew.

This was a short little action story with a bit of romance. Based on the description, I expected more emphasis on the relationship between Merlin and Morgan, but was content with the action-based plot.

This was a great glimpse in Arthurian tales, and left me wanting to dive into the author's full length novels.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dawn of Avalon March 3, 2014
By Merissa
Format:Kindle Edition
Most people, if they have any interest in King Arthur or Avalon, have heard at least one story about Morgan(a) le Fay and Merlin being lovers. Most of the stories also start the same way, with Morgan being the daughter of Ygraine of Cornwall. This story takes a different stance.

In this story, Morgan is the daughter of Uther's first wife, who he killed on the charge of adultery once he had seen Ygraine. She meets Merlin as he is being tortured by Vortigern and helps him to escape. They have one night together with the hope of more.

This is a SHORT story/novella with plenty of "history" to back up the story. It only took me about half an hour to read it but it left me wanting more.

To a healer, compassion is neither gentle nor tender, but hard and keen as a blade.

I loved this book. An imaginary historical era with a captivating love story. I only wished it were longer or had a sequel!
