4.0 out of 5 stars This Album Will BLOW You Away
Review by Chris Conlan:

Where in the world did this band come from? All that needs to be said is that BEDlight for BlueEYES is going to make a huge mark with their Trustkill debut. Not only does The Dawn feature some of the best vocals to date, but melodies that will keep you listening over and over.

From start to finish, this album captivates...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad/Not Great
Here's what you get with this album:

1) Cliche'd riffs straight outta 80's metal.
2) Cliche'd sounds straight outta bands like Thursday or Coheed+Cambria.
3) A singer that can sing. (However the album seems like a mere vehicle for him to sing his head off. The chorus is different each time he sings it and this makes for muddy songs that I'm scared...

3) A singer that can sing. (However the album seems like a mere vehicle for him to sing his head off. The chorus is different each time he sings it and this makes for muddy songs that I'm scared to sing along with.)
4) According to a non-rock music listening friend of mine, the vocals sounds like "something off of American Idol". You tell me if that's good or bad, totally subjective.
5) You do get a handful of cool songs. Honestly for $10 from Amazon it's not a bad deal.
6) The handful of good songs are rather "fun" and grew on me a bit.

I think this band has a lot of potential but right now they just sound like cut+paste rockers who decided "hey let's throw in a scream right here" or "hey let's do a little random double-base action here". And the singer I think gives us a too much of a good thing. It's almost like having a rock song that's nothing but guitar solo's for 4 minutes.

All this said, I want to emphasize that I think we'll see a lot more of this band in the future. And I don't think this album is lame or you shouldn't buy it. But next time around I hope they really branch out a little more and nail the sound they want. Right now it sounds confused. I'm very open minded about music and I don't need every band to be screaming their head off to think they're cool, and I appreciate a rocker that can croon. But like I've said I think this album is a little scattered.

On a side note: I do in fact really like their cover of 3EB's "Jumper" which I believe can still be found on their PureVolume site. Check it out.

From start to finish, this album captivates your senses and just mesmerizes you. Christian Guererro's voice is immaculate. To come across a singer with vocals that have immense range, is one in a million. When listening to the song "Nature Of The Ghost" the combination of Christian's voice intertwined with the instruments is immaculate. The melody would make your 80 year old grandma want to get up and dance and sing along.

The Dawn will shock you, awe you, and make you scream for more. BEDlight for BlueEYES is what the music scene needed. You have amazing musicians that know how to create enticing melodies that will never bore you. It is time for BEDlight to shine.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can't live without this album, August 23, 2005
This review is from: Dawn (Audio CD)
I bought it last week and since then it has been a constant in my life. I can't stop listening to it. It is a collection of songs that moves me to no end. I lost my best friend several months ago to suicide, and Ligeia is like a personal lullaby. Thank god for this band. Everyone should have this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars I WANT MORE!, August 20, 2005

THIS CD IS SO GOOD THAT IT PISSES ME OFF. I WANT MORE SONGS DAMNIT!! I'VE EVEN DOWNLOADED THEIR UNRELEASED TRACK ON ITUNES CALLED "HINDSIGHT." THE VOCALS AND GUITARS STAND OUT THE MOST TO ME AS JUST MORE THAN AMAZING. I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THIS BAND LIVE BECAUSE THEY'VE IMPRESSED ME MORE THAN ANY OTHER ALBUM I'VE PICKED UP IN THE PAST 2 YEARS.

4.0 out of 5 stars Potential, potential, January 16, 2006
This review is from: Dawn (Audio CD)
Bedlight for Blueeyes are not a perfect band. They have some identity issues, they have some of the normal "Debut" problems, but it's nothing that hasn't befallen many bands before them, and nothing that won't befall many to come.

What they also have, and what makes them so intriguing, is talent. We have musicians who exhibit comfort with their instruments. To that end, we have a vocalist that uses his voice AS an instrument. The songs draw from places the average band of their ilk might not reach to... the power ballad, the dueling metal guitar intro, vocal lilts, and powerful jumps up the octave... "Dig on This" starts with what could easily be a classic rock outro... as one who enjoys singing, I feel impelled to sing along to songs like Midnight Symphony where you can tell there's a lot of passion being projected.

Granted, most of the songs on this album are only good, and not overly memorable until you give it another spin, but 10 good songs are better than the normal average of 12 bad. the definite highlights are Ephemeral Addictions, Midnight Symphony, and Ligeia

There's a certain disappointment when a CD's best excuse for existance is what might happen on CD #2, but with a little more maturity and experience, these guys could possibly become the standard to live up to in their genre. When every "next big thing" sounds just like the last big thing, hearing the shining hope under the rubble is sometimes the most exciting thing to hope for musically.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Album of the Year, August 20, 2005
This review is from: Dawn (Audio CD)
I just came accross this band randomly a week ago online. I checked out their purevolume page and listened to the tracks and realized within 10 seconds that this band is nothing like anything else out there and that I NEEDED to have this album. They are amazing in so many ways. Unmistable vocals, Christian is a legend waiting to happen. The music as a whole is flawless. I love every track. Every single track is perfection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Incredible, August 20, 2005
This review is from: Dawn (Audio CD)
This album combines so many styles into one amayzing musical tour de force. This band will take you there with brilliant vocals, and haunting/rocking instrumentals. If you like your rock and roll to have a lot of soul this is your album. Best tracks are midnight symphony and ligeia, but every song on this album is a masterpiece. I haven't stopped listening to it for a week and i don't see it leaving my cd player for a long long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best voice in rock today, August 16, 2005
This review is from: Dawn (Audio CD)
All i can say about this album is wow. Nobody can touch Christian Guerrero's vocals. Its incrediable how good he sounds. I have been looking forward to this album ever since i heard they signed to trustkill. I was not dissapointed. The only thing i wish for is that there were more tracks on the album. Also they did put on the album there two demos "Leaving Berkeley Heights" and "The Promise" both of them excellent songs but i was hoping for some more new stuff. If you are in to good rock music and want to hear somebody with incrediable vocals go pick up this album right now you will not be dissapointed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Far below average, August 20, 2005
This review is from: Dawn (Audio CD)
Ugh, alright...thank god Trustkill has the new Most Precious Blood album coming out next month or this year would have been a total flop for them (other than the new Throwdown album which exceeded my expectations). Between this, Fight Paris, and Bullet For My Valentine I just don't know what to say other than I'm severely disappointed. Is this the same label that actually put out Poison The Well's Opposite Of December?

Anyways, there's only one strong thing about this entire band and album and thats their vocalist. He's the closest thing to a professionally trained vocalist you're going to hear thats fronting a generic pop-punk band. This isn't a rock album nor are they a post-hardcore band. Unfortunetly for him, even he overdoes it. So much in fact that his pretentious and downright cheesy vocal work (listen to :54 mark of "Ephemeral Additions" or his "whoo-hoos" at the 1:00 mark of "Leaving Berkely Heights") pulls himself even further away from the uninspired music, jarring the listening appeal of this record even more than it should be.

Musically there's just not to much to say. It's just drab. It's all been done before and quite frankly it's been done WAY better. The entire record chugs along at a midpaced tempo that takes a complete backseat to the vocal work, which as I said while maybe be impressive from a technical level, is entirely overdone, overproduced and far to polished to be enjoyable. Considering the fact that the band was barely even around for a year before being signed (I guess being NJ natives pays off when it comes to working with the Trustkill's and Ferret's eh?) it's not hard to believe how immature the songwriting is. Maybe they'll find more of a groove the next time around but right now there's about a gagillion other bands on Myspace and Purevolume doing the exact same thing and doing it better.

Now I know bringing up the name of the band shouldn't have much to do reviewing a record but I mean come on, Bedlight For Blueeyes? They didn't even give themselves a chance when they picked that one. They'll unfortunetly be the laughing stock of the independent music scene so long as their in existence. This record has "bottom of the bargain bin at the local record store" written all over it.

So, essentially what you're left with is a generic mashed together sound that is akin to Emery minus the creativity and artistry. Pick up Emery's new album "The Question" instead, you'll thank me later.
