Thorough, interesting coverage of an under explored WWII topic, April 6, 2009
This review is from: Dawn of Courage (Paperback)
In Dawn of Courage, Fuegner provides complete and compelling coverage about the Dutch Resistance in Holland after the German invasion, nicely combining other sources to provide a backdrop of the invasion and Holland's response. This was the greater battle that took place, an ideological war of national purpose fought in the hearts and minds of the Dutch people that said, "Though our country has fallen, we will not yield. You may rule our land, but you will not rule our hearts." Fuegner shows how the battle of the Dutch Resistance was fought through ordinary people in every day situations, from illegal underground newspapers to factory walkouts to smuggling downed ally pilots across borders to secretly tracking movements of German troops. A worthwhile read, well-organized and well told.
