More than a horror novel and film, DAWN is a way of life!,
By A Customer (Madison Hts, MI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dawn of the Dead (Hardcover)
Simply this: The film, DAWN OF THE DEAD, changed my life back in 1979 when I was a kid. I honestly and truly never have been quite the same since. Seriously. The film novelization sticks relatively close to the actual film, though does add some interesting little expositionary passages, conversations, and character motivations--not to mention a bit more background into the characters' lives. If you love the film you'll definitely love the novel! It's gripping, chilling, and mind-bogglingly exciting and addictive. What a story and what an epicly grand and inspired stage Romero chooses to play it all out on! Amazing stuff...at once nightmarish and bleak, yet also life-affirming, hopeful, and humorous. Tell me Romero isn't a genius (this and NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD is all the proof I need!). This book is just a rousing rollercoaster ride--as is the film. I eat, drink, and sleep this novel (and the film, which even inspired me to publish a bi-monthly zine devoted to it), and you will too. A masterpiece!

The next best thing to being there! Zombies Rock!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dawn of the Dead (Hardcover)
This version of Dawn Of The Dead is a must have! With Full color stills from the movie, you can really appreciate Tom Savini's craftsmanship. Even though it's out of print, a few copies are out there somewhere. Try to find one if you simply love ZOMBIES!

Susanna Sparrow did a wonderful job with this book. While staying true to the characters of Fran, Roger and Peter, she also gave them a little something extra you can't see in the movie.
She allowed us to hear their thoughts. By doing this the characters become even more real and I really enjoyed this book. To those who want to buy the hardcover it is only 6 by 9, so its not very big compared to most hardcover editions. No zombie fan can say they have it all if this book is't in their library. Even after 30 years it's still one of the best books out there because of the origination of the story.

Scariest book I ever read...,
This review is from: Dawn of the Dead (Paperback)
This has to be the most scary book I ever read, the movie was alright, but nothing compares to the book. I won't even rent it from the library anymore because last time I did I was up all night finishing it and then believed for nights and nights that I was hearing sounds and seeing things. It is a claustrophobic book, that really puts you in the middle of it, and you feel like you are going to be eaten next. Seriously it is that good. Go read it! Highly reccommended!

romero is a god...,
This review is from: Dawn of the Dead (Paperback)
Shame, shame on those of you who chose to rate this movie subpar... not only is this movie an innovation to the industry, it went beyond the typical ideals of "horror" to bring us all something more... the blood looks like red paint??? how dare you. you cannot truly be a fan of horror and question the talent of tom savini, the master of special effects... remember, this movie is before star wars, before george lucas, and before CGI, and still it artistically pulls together a plot, gore, and suspense, all the while keeping it's satirical undertones. To those who bash DOTD, your opinion has now been forefieted - forever. You now officially suck.

By Blue Tyson "- Research Finished" (Legion clubhouse) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dawn of the Dead (Hardcover)
Something has breached the barrier between the dead and the living, and the dead are coming back to walk the earth, not to mention eat the living.
Slowly people begin to realise that is something wrong, but react too slowly, and the dead take over. Some small number of survivors try and hold out.

A book as lifeless as a zombie itself,

This review is from: Dawn of the Dead (Paperback)
Yes, George A. Romero is a genius, yes Dawn of the Dead is a career high water mark (to me surpassed by the far darker and mature Day). But this "novelization" by Susanna Sparrow is nothing but the script in text format, and with nothing added to give it depth as a novel. Sorry fans but this isn't a classic bit of writing, just some really great marketing.
