4.0 out of 5 stars Fun!, July 14, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Dawn of Discovery (Video Game)
I really think this game is fun! I didn't know at first because sometimes games like this are hard to learn. But this one is not at all!
You can play on three skill levels and each one walks you through each step to building up your civilization. You have build buildings and also give the townspeople what they need. Overall, this game is challenging and fun and not hard to learn at all. There is not much difference between each skill level but all three levels are fun. You can also play without the step by step help, but I have not tried that yet. This game is definately worth getting!

5.0 out of 5 stars City Builder fans, take note! Great strategy game, July 6, 2010

I used to play the Sierra City Builder series on my PC, back in the days of Win95 and Win2K -- Emperor: Rise Of The Middle Kingdom, Zeus, and Pharaoh/Cleopatra. Alas, most of them don't run on modern versions of Windows. This delightful game is a great example of the city builder genre for the Nintendo DS. The tutorial gently eases you into the basics of gameplay (if you've never played this particular type of game before), and there is plenty of depth. The graphics are remarkable for such a low-res platform -- zooming in and just watching the little people go about their jobs is amusing.

The storyline involves two royal brothers vying to explore new lands to produce food and goods for a failing kingdom. There is a nerdy advisor, a cheeky lady pirat-- er, privateer, and various other characters who might be friends or adversaries. The cutscenes are drawn in a fairly realistic style (not as cartoonish as many), and I felt that the balance between gameplay and cutscenes is about right.

Consider this a great example of edutainment... resource management and exploration involve careful planning, especially on the harder levels. Everyone in my family loves it.

(Tip: Anno 1701 for the DS is very similar... just a different era. These games are both available for PC as well, if you go for gorgeous graphics... but I really think they've done a great job with the handheld version.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun and long, December 6, 2011
A Kid's Review
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Dawn of Discovery (Video Game)
This game is fun but it takes a long time to complete. I am 12 and have had it for a year. i only play it once in a while because it gets boring and confusing at some parts. other than that it is a pretty good game. you even get chased by pirates if u have treasure on your ship.
