More About the Author

Born and raised in the mountains of southwestern Montana, Louis LaSalle's exposure to photography started early with instruction from his knowledgable father. University studies in film & television production and computer science led him to Silicon Valley in California, making world class software tools for his fellow artists. Long hours of coding, and the need for a serious creative outlet, rekindled his love for photography. Largely self taught in the art of the nude, his work is marked by dramatic lighting, strong contrasts, and a wide dynamic range, which has been characterized as sculptural in nature. Other interests include working out, the outdoors, live theater and he's a pretty good cook!

I must admit that I was not familiar with the name Louis Lasalle, being better acquainted with the work of Paul Freeman, David Vance, Dylan Rosser, and Giovanni. Mr. Lasalle is definitely a contender of high merit among the names in this group!!! His work is closer in scope to that of Vance and Rosser. Paul Freeman's work is like NO other, him being an especial favorite of mine although I now own works from all five artists. This volume, Dawn of the Gods, is aptly named!! The men photographed in this first ever coffee table effort from Lasalle are just that--Greek/Roman gods. The bodies and faces are sheer prefection and set the standards for male physical achievement. The cover model is worth the cost of the book!!! There are dozens of full frontal photographs along with many which are closeups of the phallus itself. This particular type of photographic art is reminiscent of the work of Giovanni, whose art is a worship of the penis itself. Many photos include full erections so this volume is NOT timid in nature and makes no apologies for its worship of the male body in ALL of its glory!!!! You will probably recognize a number of well known gay porn actors such as Johnny Castle and Alexander Freitas as models. Castle is an especial favorite of Lasalle's and one can see why--his body and face are amazing, not to mention his other endowments. There is a good mixture of different types of men included and there is something for everyone. Not being familiar with Lasalle's name before now, I took a chance simply because of the cover model, whom I find to be exquisite. In this case, you CAN judge a book by its cover!!! I highly recommend this beautiful artstyle book and you won't be disappointed with its quality or content!!!Read more ›

Big disappointment, to say the least. The best feature is the cover photo. Too many of the models are very run-of-the-mill with nothing in the least god-like about them. And he uses these same mediocre models again and again. Save your money. This book is a big waste of money

What a treat to get this book in the mail today. I've been following photographer Louis LaSalle's work at his web site for a couple of years; his nude physique photos look great on my computer screen, but they are truly spectacular on the big printed page. This is a superbly produced volume (as we have come to expect from publisher Bruno Gmunder), well worth the investment. One of the very best volumes of its kind in many years.

That cover's great, the model is hot - but that's it!!

The rest of the pics are of a bunch of short, old porn actors. There are only 2 couple of pics of the cover model, and a few pic of a very hot Asian guy's.

This book has so many beautiful full frontal and crisp pics, that my entire male photography nude collection COMBINED could not match it! Smaller than what I expected, it is an amazing piece, and should be part of any serious nude male art collectors library! I love it! Dont believe the negative and wrong reviews on here - Louis Lasalle has outdone himself, you will not be disappointed with this book, the models, the layout, the pictures have me hot with every turn of every page!!! Get it, thats all I can say. You will be glad you did!

Louis LaSalle finally has his very own monograph! Not that people do not know he is one of the leading photographers of the male nude today: his work is included in anthologies such as Provocateur, Dreamboys, 2blue, deepblue, blueBOOKS, BAD, Manatomy, Provocateur Studio Men, Romantic, novel covers for writer James Lear books, Jewels, Cock Tales, Turnon: Muscles as well as 7 portfolios of individual works he has published and sold on his website. This full fledged Louis LaSalle solo work THE DAWN OF THE GODS is extraordinarily strong and stands with the best of them as a portfolio celebrating the perfect male physique - completely - in all its glory!

In LaSalle's words, `For me, photographing the male physique is a collaborative process. I have the good fortune to work with models who represent the aesthetic epitome of what the human body can become. They are artists in their own rights, who have through years of hard work and discipline turned their bodies into living sculpture. They are also performance artists who change on command into countless characters of our imaginations. I approach a photo session as a dialogue between myself and the model. We each bring our own unique contribution of creativity, knowledge and experience to the session. When we share and pool these skills, the dialogue is positive and good work naturally follows. When true rapport is established, then magic happens! When we attempt to describe visual experiences something is inevitably lost in the translation. Nevertheless, we are social animals and we love to talk about everything, including art. For fine art, I prefer black & white. I find there to be an almost lyrical quality in the play of light and shadow in black & white. Air can glow. Water can become glass or inky blackness.

The photos are beautiful but uninspired. I'm happy to see full color large prints of male nudes, and I'm happy to see their penises because this is art and there's no need to be shy about that. But somehow the photos seem boring compared to what I've seen before. One advantage of this book is that the artists don't shy away from showing of the penis as the main prize. There are photos where the penis takes up most of the space on a page, and I appreciate that. It's a beautiful part of the male body. And I definitely love the hot, muscular Asian guy. I just think the photos are impersonal. They are like porn rather than art. And art, don't get me wrong, art can be erotic. Art can be sexual. Art can turn you on. But art has something porn does not have. Art tells you a story about the beautiful person you're looking at. And art tells you about the person behind the camera too.
