5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome and Provocing, December 9, 1999
This book was one of the best in the entire series, It causes you to think about who is really in control of your life. At first I thought I didn't like the series but then I couldn't put it down.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the BEST books you'll every read!, December 30, 2009

If you've never read anything by BJ Hoff make SURE you get this series to start. In all of my reading, I have never read a better author than this lady (well, of course, Beverly Cleary but that was YEARS ago!). As mentioned, this is the final book in a series of 5 that focuses on two families, one that immigrates to America during the time of the potato famine, and one that stays in Ireland and faces all the uproar and fighting during that time. Although these are Christian books, you will NOT find a better crafted series or author, I think, on the secular shelves. The research she does for each book she writes is so exemplified in the story, that you actually feel like you're in Ireland, in a tenement house in New York, etc. I was so surprised at this ending and I was also quite sad that it was over! This is literature at its best by an author that deserves the awards she's been receiving. Your knowledge will be increased, your faith strengthened, while being entertained immensely at the same time. Highly, highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice End to a Great Series, May 8, 2007

Truth be told, I thought the first book in this series was pretty boring. However, the second book got slightly better, the third better still, and so forth. The fifth book definitely continued that trend. It was very slow going in the beginning of the series, but by the time this book comes about, you've had a chance as a reader to get to know the characters and learn to love them, and their faults.
