I picked this game up for $15, and I have to say...it was not worth the money.
Dawn of Heroes is a strategy rpg-a bit similar to Advance wars and Fire Emblem. But while those two are good games, this one is not. First off, the story is painful. You start off in a land that has lost its heroes, and so some new heroes must be found-simple enough, but here is where it gets bad-almost as soon as you start the game a magic talking belt tells the first characters you control that they are destined to become heroes. (Seriously...a talking belt?!) The rest of the story is bland and boring-meet new people and they join the party, over and over. The dialouge between characters is also cheezy and boring, and thank goodness this game does not have voice acting. The gameplay I feel is average. Most of the time you play, you will spend in battles-and most of these battles are very easy. Battle is controlled on the touch screen by choosing where the character will move on a battle grid and the action that will be taken in battle. On the top screen you will see the battle in 3D, which looks decent and is kind of cool to watch-but seeing the same battle moves 20x a battle gets old after a while. After a dozen or so battles, you will get bored by the repetitive gameplay. I will say though that one nice thing about the game is that there are tons of characters to choose from, and this can help keep the game fresh a bit longer. Now on to the sound and music. I like most video game music, but Dawn of Heroes has some really bad music. Some of the pieces that are meant to sound like rock tunes/songs actually sound like a person's voice screeching out of the Ds's speakers. The actual sound effects are nothing special. The visuals in this game are really...different. The art style of the characters looks like cheap Japanese Anime "chibi" characters crossed with the Bride of Chucky. Some people may like it, but I personally do not. As for the 3D parts of the game, it just looks ok, again nothing special. Overall: Pros 1. Many characters to choose from 2. Story may appeal to a younger audience 3. Nice use of touchscreen Cons 1. VERY repetitive gameplay. 2. Horrible music 3. Cringeworthy storyline 4. Ugly, ugly, characters! I gave the game a chance, I really did, but in the end, I really think it is not worth the money, unless you can pick it up for $10 or less...and maybe want to take a chance on this one.

An STRPG with a unique style.,
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars

I find this game a bit repetitive and I believe requires some leveling up but characters have their own unique abilities and treasure/items are random which is nice.
PROS Unique characters and abilities Strategy Turn Based RPG Random Item Drop Party formation before each fight NEGATIVES 3D characters (I prefer 2D art..but that is a matter of taste) Can't turn off animation (my biggest negative...can't stand for animated battle sequence to end) Some repetitive fighting to level up is needed. Hidden objective is annoying (for me, others may like it) NOT APPLICABLE Music, I have it turned off all the time and don't care for it. Some may like it. Conclusion I am glad I purchased this game overall but really wish I could control the speed of the character's animation or turn them off period. It's an OK game to keep busy until something better comes along the way.

Great kid-friendly turned based game,
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Dawn of Heroes (Video Game)
I'm 43 and often buy game for myself or my children. I'm a fan of turn-based games, so I picked this up.
The game is based on turn-based tactical combat. There's a good story line that plays out as you move through the game. The game has many user friendly features: - All heroes in your group level at the same time regardless if you're using them in a fight. - There's no penalty for losing a fight or running from one. - When you use a special item to unlock the side missions, there's no penalty if you use the wrong one (i.e. nothing gets "used up"). - You can move back through the story as much as you like to re-play fights or just have fun. As you play through the game, more heroes join your group. Presently, I have 18 heroes in my group, but fights use 5 or fewer for each, forcing you to choose which heroes are best (or which you like the most). At first I thought it was going to be a kiddie game, but as an adult, I'm drawn to the game and find myself wanting to play more. At the 4th stage, the fights become more challenging and require you to really use the various special moves that each hero has. Now, at the 5th stage, I'm having to plan well to get past the first fight. There appears to be a random treasure generator used in the game which is nice since you get a variety of items that can drop. You can carry an infinite supply of items (which is handy since new heroes arrive empty-handed). There are basic towns available in the game, but they offer only basic service. However, one option is to fight a random group of enemies for cash. This is a nice feature since it allows you to practice using your enemies together and offers replay value. All in all, this has turned out to be a great game.
