Wonderful Country Music, December 25, 2007
This review is from: Dawn Sears (Audio CD)
Why Dawn Sears has not become a major country star is a testament to the sad state of affairs in Nashville these days. This CD is a tasteful mixture of uptempo country rockers, emotionally-charged ballads and lovely waltzes. All but four of the songs are self-penned, the others being A-11 by Hank Cochran, Unmitigated Gall by Mel Tillis, Fit For A King by Carl E. Jackson and Jim Rushing, and My Ears Should Burn (When Fools Are Talked About) by Roger Miller. The stellar musicians never overwhelm her powerful voice, and the production is always calculated to let that voice take center stage and shine through. Notable session pickers Jeff Taylor, Milton Sledge, John Hughey, Dennis Crouch, Kenny Sears (Dawn's hubby), Hoot Hester and Andy Reiss provide understated support throughout the CD. Also featured are Vince Gill on background vocals and Connie Smith who duets with Dawn on Unmitigated Gall. This is a wonderful album for any one who appreciates true country music.
