5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best hardcore bands
I used to listen to hardcore punk back in the mid-'80s. Bands like Black Flag, The Exploited, Fear, Circle Jerks, Dead Kennedys, The Sex Pistols, and D.O.A. provided my soundtrack for a couple of years. I was in a band during this time period. We started out as a straight rock band, recording three or four rock albums before we turned punk for a couple of albums. Our...

3.0 out of 5 stars An excellent introduction to this great hardcore ensemble.
This is probably the best spot to jump into this band's discography to get some perspective as to why they were the hardest rockin' politically pissed off bunch of canucks you'd ever wanna meet. There's lots of rare tracks you'd have hocked body parts to get, back in the 80's (wish I had'nt).

Our punk days were a lot of fun. D.O.A. was one of the more influential punk bands for us, along with Black Flag and Fear, mostly. D.O.A.'s album The Dawning Of A New Error (1985) is a 33-song barrage of hardcore punk with an attitude, spanning the years 1978-1985. The whole album is great, but my personal favorite tracks are "Disco Sucks" (it really does, by the way), "World War 3", "The Enemy", "My Old Man's A Bum", "Bloodsucker Baby", "New Wave Sucks", and "Let's Wreck The Party". The liner notes include the lyrics to each song.

Overall, this is a great punk album by a hardcore heavyweight. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars 33 tracks and not self-indulgent, May 22, 2000
This review is from: Dawning of a New Error (Audio CD)
It's all here. Great, good, and 'thought you might want to hear this.' Some really funny tunes here such as "OO-EE-OO..." which is actually part of another song with the "new lyrics" sung over. Can you name it? "Trial By Media" and "Murder In Hollywood" hit the listener hard. The band, never one to pull any punches, lets the listener in on some of the events that the band has been part of. The cast of characters who played on the different tracks really ought to have their own books, but the music says enough for now.
