5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent start to the series! February 20, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Prejudice has been rampant in Canada since werewolves have come out into the open. Nina Decker keeps her own supernatural ties a secret. She's half fae, but harbors a deep resentment for her full-blooded fae mother. Her mother abandoned her and left her with her fae-struck human father. Nina has vowed never to do the same to another man but something about werewolf Severin Saint Morgan intrigues her. Unfortunately, the fae and werewolves are ancient enemies....

Vivi Anna is a master at writing urban fantasy and paranormal romances that keep the reader on the edge of the seat and GLIMMER is no exception. GLIMMER ventures into the world of the fae but these are not the friendly fae some are used to. Instead, these fae can be quite deadly and Vivi Anna doesn't pull any punches at showing us this, whether it's through the violence the fae so gleefully commit or their callous disregard for others. Through Nina's eyes, we begin seeing the rules of the world emerge as Vivi Anna does an awesome job with world building.

However, it is the characters who truly make this storyline work. Nina's own dislike of the fae along with her willingness to look beyond a person's supernatural ethnicity makes her an excellent lead character for a story such as GLIMMER. I couldn't help but cheer her on as she stood up to the established powers and rules governing the fae and the werewolves. Her dislike of humans being fae-struck only added to my admiration for her.

GLIMMER ends on a cliffhanger, one that has me hoping Vivi Anna publishes the next installment in the series very soon! Highly recommended!

2.0 out of 5 stars Only a 'Glimmer' of a story... August 21, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I was excited to get a copy of Glimmer because I love urban fantasies and faeries. There are several reasons why this book disappointed me.

1. It wasn't an Urban Fantasy. This book had the tough protagonist who was a fairy in a city where werewolves had just come out of the closet. But, in my opinion, the story focused more on the relationship than the plot (perhaps making it paranormal romance?), which leads me to my next disappointment...

2. The book didn't have a plot. The book begins with Nina trying to save a victim of an apparent werewolf attack, which leads to meeting with Severin Saint Morgan. If you read the sample and thought this would lead Nina and Severin on an adventure to find out who was attacking the good citizens of Vancouver, you would be wrong. It's actually about Nina and Severin having an intense connection to one another and going on a date before she `blossoms'. While the blurb is usually a teaser as to what the story is about, Glimmer's blurb IS its story minus some details and steamy scenes.

3. This is not a full length novel. It came in at under 100 pages on my e-reader, which would make it more of a novella. The word count is listed elsewhere as 32,304 (about half a novel) and that's generous if the bonus material is included in that word count.

I am concerned that the author is misleading readers by calling this a novel. But other reviewers don't seem to mind that the story is on the short side. I gave it two stars because the writing was not bad. I was just not impressed with the story.

I received a complimentary copy of this book to review. Had I paid full price, I probably would have given it one star because it is shorter than advertised and it seemed to consist entirely of romance and backstory with little conflict.

4.0 out of 5 stars Shorter than I hoped January 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
In DAWNING Ms Anna weaves a good tale with great world building. I enjoyed DAWNING, what there was of it. I picked it up thinking it was a novella or a short story. Instead it's a long, open-ended prologue to another book, but for 99 cents I consider it a fair value. I can't comment on the preview of GLIMMER, because I refuse to read excerpts. When I'm ready for another trip to Ms Anna's fae world I'll just purchase the entire book.

1.0 out of 5 stars what a rip off October 29, 2011
By Tara
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Don't waste youre .99. It isn't a story, it isn't even a short story. It is a blurb that would be written on the back of a book and they are charging for it.

1.0 out of 5 stars What a rip off!!!! September 3, 2011

I read Glimmer by this author, it was a great book so I went looking for something else by her, saw this as a prequel and thought wow this should be good. Well it was good all three chapters of it!!! I can't believe that the author would even charge for this. Terribly disappointed, may not even read any other books by her. Don't waste the .99 cents for this teaser!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fairies vs. werewolves?! November 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
There are no vampires to be seen. Nina Decker must travel to her mother's realm of the fae, Nightfall, and deal with fairy court politics that call her a princess but treat like a prisoner. But bringing her werewolf lover Severin Saint Morgan along for the ride proves to make things more complicated than she'd ever imagined. The back story of how fairies and werewolves came to be enemies is fascinating. She must decide whether or not to trust Severin in a world where she trusts no one and where the most unlikely characters are the most trustworthy.

The latest addition to the Nina Decker series is dark, mysterious, suspenseful and yet, unpredictable. It is also WAY too short.
