2008 two CD pressing of Dawn Landes' previously French-only debut album plus a bonus disc (Straight Lines), which contains songs from her limited edition UK-only releases on Boy Scout Recordings and her popular cover version of Peter, Bjorn & John's 'Young Folks'. Also included is the single 'Straight Lines' which has been featured heavily in recent TV commercials for Axe and Transport For London. Dawn's music comes from the mouth, mind and hands of the New York-based singer-songwriter. Reminiscent of the raw traditionalism of Woody Guthrie and the experimental Alt-Folk lyricism of artists like Joanna Newsome, the Louisville KY native plays a variety of instruments ($8 guitars! Pink accordions! Glockenspiels! Optigons!). Cooking Vinyl.

I discovered Dawn Landes having met her name on Suzanne Vega's personal page in a social community web site. After listening to some demo tracks, without any hasitation, I ordered all off her albums from Amazon. I found myself listening to a new musical masterpiece which i've been searching for the last 21 years. Taken the Dylan, Petty, Harrison, Orbison, Knopfler and Waits oldies out of my car just listenin' to Dawn for weeks now.Because of the professionally-made album completeness in Dawn's Music, i prefer not to do a song by song review. Every next song is to add the finishing touches. Though it's only the first album of Dawn, with simlicity, rockability, and perfect combination of desperation and hope in it, this album is an ideal new start to music... if you're bored of listenin' to the same musicians for a decade, like me...
