Not the Same Twista!!!!,
By Norris "catdog" (Dettroit, Mi) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Day After (Audio CD)
Honestly, as a long term fan of Twista's, I considered this CD to be a bit of an under achievement to himself as well as his fans. Although there were a few interesting tracks on
the album, the majority of the CD was exceedingly dull. In addition to that, Twista is still one of the top rappers alive no doubt, but this album was not at all usual for him. When compared to his previous multi-platinum CDs such as "Adrenaline Rush" and "Kamikaze," this was indeed his poorest output. It showed very little of Twista's outstanding rapping ability. Primarily, compared to his solo debut album "Adrenaline Rush" released in 1997, his latest CD is almost the opposite. On "Adrenaline Rush" he seemed to be more focused and serious, while still including some lyrical word play, whereas his most recent CD seemed to be a less intensified approach from him rather than the usual level of forcefulness he comes with. His first album had passionate tracks such as "Adrenaline Rush," "Death before Dishonor," and lastly "Emotions." Secondly, comparing this album to his second most recent album "Kamikaze," makes fans wish the "The Day After" would have never come forward. Nearly every track on the "Kamikaze" was a hit, even the singles that were played on the radio proved so. Just to be certain do the math, match Twista's first single from "Kamikaze" called "Slow Jams" featuring Jamie Foxx and Kanye West to the first single of the new CD called "Girl Tonight" featuring Trey Songs. Which one received more radio play?? Exactly, "Slow Jams" obtained more radio play and assisted his CDs sales. In conclusion, Twista is still one of the best rappers in this day, but this day after was not at all worth-wild to his fans and it did not show the genius of Twista's lyrical style. Unarguably, this was his worst album.

Twista - The Day After,
This review is from: Day After (Audio CD)
Twista returns with "The Day After" (2005). I have enjoyed a lot of Twista's past work whether it be guest appearances or albums like "Adrenaline Rush" and "Kamikaze". This album however does not appeal to me, Twista has decided to make an album full half-decent ballads to the ladies, party tracks, and cuts about pimping hoes and sex. While I don't mind these, I expect more from Twista. This album lacks the variety of his last, Twista make an album full of repetitive commercial tracks and the end result is a release lacking in depth and substance. Two tracks on this standout for me "Lavish" feat. Pharell and "Heartbeat". Twista summed up this one himself in a recent interview by saying "When I was younger, I was rappin' for the ******, but when I got older, I started hanging out at the clubs. I'm spittin' for the ladies now".

Not Like Kamikaze But It'll Do,

This CD was good but it just didn't have that hypeness as Kamikaze but there was some pretty hard songs on there like Heartbeat, Get It How You Live, Check That Hoe and Out Here that's about it all the songs are alright though so I would recommend that you sampled it first.

(3.5 Stars) 'The Day After' Always Brings Regret!,

This review is from: Day After (Audio CD)
I have been following Twista's career ever since his Runnin Off At The Mouth album when he was known as Tung Twista, and his debut video was on The Box! Even when he revised his name to Twista and put out Adrenaline Rush, most cats still didn't know too much about him. Songs like "Get It Wet" and "Emotions" garnered little recognition for the Midwesterner. He put out Mobstability with the Speedknot Mobstaz a year later with even less mainstream buzz than the previous album. After the independent release of Legit Ballin' in 1999, Twista faded into the background and waited for the right time to take on the industry again. Jump ahead five years later when Twista pairs up with a rising Chicago native named Kanye West who has the industry by the horns. Together they finally get Twista some well-deserved respect with Kamikaze. Now Twista releases The Day After to try to retain some of the newly received attention he lacked early on in his career.
Kanye West isn't hovering all over this album like he was with Kamikaze, and you can tell this is the case right away. Twista goes for a pretty diverse approach this time around as if he was a newcomer on the scene or something. He conjures up his harder edge on songs like the sinister "Heartbeat" and the hedonistic "Check That H**." "Get It How You Live" is a hustler's anthem for 2005, while the dreamy "Lavish" and the childlike "When I Get You Home" features the production and vocals of Pharrell as well as Jamie Foxx singing on the latter song. Twista tries his hand at the 'screwed' phenomenon as well on the second half of the song "Holding Down The Game." "Do Wrong" with Lil Kim is impressive to say the least, and the breakout single "Girl Tonite" with Trey Songz brings back classic memories of songs by the curl-sportin' R&B super group Ready For The World. Snoop Dogg brings down yet another album with his wearisome guest vocals on "Had To Call." The inclusion of Mariah Carey on "So Lonely" isn't a bad thing, it just doesn't fit with the rest of the songs on The Day After. Other songs that have no business on this album include the extremely jubilant "Hit The Floor" featuring Cuban-American rapper Pitbull, and the ridiculous "Chocolate Fe's And Redbones" with singing done by Johnny P (who should've been left in the 90's!) Twista should have concentrated on making The Day After more focused on one direction like he did with Kamikaze. Instead, you are forced to listen to a hodgepodge of tracks that go in all different directions. Although The Day After isn't a total loss, it certainly isn't anywhere near the album we were all waiting for from Twista.

Twista is the man,

I love Twista. His rapid-fire style is fresh and just plain awsome. He has a great appeal and knows how to keep his listeners entertained. Heres a play by play of his latest and greatest CD yet.
1. Day After (Feat. Syleena Johnson) - 4/5 - Kind of an intro, letting us know that Twista is back with a vengence...get ready to kick @$$ 2. Check That H** - 5/5 - Great song, not as awsome as KIll Em All from Kamakazi, but it's still dope 3. Chocolate Fe's and Redbones (Feat. Johnny P) - 3/5 - Not a big fan of this track, I kinda skip it. It's a song for the ladies, which isn't bad by any means, it's just not as dope as his otha lady ballads 4. Get It How You Live - 5/5 - Great, great, great song about rising up in the world of hip/hop...hustin and all that it takes to get to the top 5. Lavish (Feat. Pharell) - 5/5 - One of the better lady lovin' songs...not the best, but maybe second best 6. Girl Tonite (Feat. Trey Songz) - 4/5 - This song got dissed by a lot of Twista fans as too comercial, and while it is it's not any more commercial than, oh should I mention 'Overnight Celebrity' which is the worst Twista song EVER 7. Do Wrong (Feat. Lil' Kim) - 10/5 - OH MY GOD, It's the queen bee and the hip/hop King at it again. Everytime Twista and Lil' Kim colabe you just know it'll be off the chain and here it is, their best colabo yet. I love K.I.M...you know, gotta represent Broklyn even though I'm stuck here in TX now...my heart's still up north 8. Heartbeat - 4/5 - All right, not to hot, but then again, not too bad neither 9. Holding Down the Game - 4/5 - same as last one 10. When I Get You Home (A.I.O.U.) (Feat Jamie Foxx and Pharell) - 5/5 - Good song, nive lady lovin' beat and Jamie Foxx is tight here 11. So Lonely (Feat. Mariah Carey) - 2000000/5 - MY FAVORITE TWISTA SONG EVER AND THE BEST LADY LOVIN' SONG TO EVER BE MADE. I love Mariah, but she hit a slump a few years back, but lately she has rose to the top of her game and she is just ON FIRE!!! And so is Twista on this INSTANT hit... 12. Had to Call (Feat Snoop Dogg and Sleepy Eyed Jones) - 5/5 - Anything Snoop Touches is golden, and so is this song 13. Out Here (Feat. Juvenile and SpeedKnot Mobstaz) - 4/5 - This has the dopest beat of all the songs on the LP, and if it weren't for Juvie F@#$ing things up, well this may have been one of favorite songs..I just can't stand Juvie and he ruins this song for me 14. I'm a Winner - 5/5 - YES YOU ARE...I sing this to my wife and it's actually my ringtone for when she calls...GREAT GRIND ON SONG 15. Hit the Floor (Feat. PitBull) - Fans dogged this song...not sure why. I like it alot. I blast this song in the car. Pitbull has better rymes than Twista on this song in actuallity. Has a very Ying Yang Twins vibe to it. I love it. So there you have it...Twista's latest, and greatest CD EVER...He's a rap god so buy this CD and be very very happy you did!

Kelly sample must makes the song even better by the second, Addicting Lyrics, Addicting Hook, Chorus... Classic twista Track!! (Overall 10+) 15.Hit The Floor (Featuring Pitbull) Horible Track, No point and Annoiying, puts a bad name on Reggaeton music. Pitbulls new style is Whack and he makes the song even worse, definetly puts a damp on this Great Album! (Overall 3) Overall, even though this album ends bad it still is a Great album and its just short of a Classic.... thats probably why its sellin' Like Hot Cakes!!! (Overall For The album: 9.3)

Give Me Adrenaline Rush 2!!!,
By
This review is from: Day After (Audio CD)
I'm from the Chi and Twista is one of my favorite rappers of all time. Every since I first heard Adrenaline Rush back in '97, I've been a die hard fan and I've been waiting for him to blow up every since. I was glad when Roc-a-Fella signed him. I must have bumped Champions a hundred times that summer. While I was happy he'd finally made it, I knew it would come at a sacrifice. He's not rapping like the same Twista from back in the day. Don't get me wrong, he still has the skills. We see evidence of it in songs like Check That Hoe and Heartbeat, but the rest of it sort of falls flat. I'm waiting for another album where we get 10 to 13 tracks of fire, like Overdose, Adrenaline Rush, and Mobster's Anthem. Come on Twista, get back to the mobster pimp s*!t we fell in love with and show them how we do in the Chi.

2-1/2 stars -- MY 700th REVIEW! WHEE!!!,
By
This review is from: Day After (Audio CD)
After the success of Kamikaze, many diehard Twista fans accused him of having sold out, because it wasn't until he hit the mainstream that he started seeing platinum sales. Love it or hate it, Twista tried to continue that essence with his follow-up, The Day After. Unfortunately, it just doesn't work as well.
Most of the other two-star reviews are pretty accurate (especially Constant and Norris' respective reviews). I think it can be assumed that the day after is Women's Day because Twista is spending most of the album rapping to the ladies (LL Cool J, anyone?). Not only that, but in some places it's a little too obvious that he's trying to recapture the magic of "Slow Jamz". The lead single "Girl Tonite" is the most obvious example of this, especially since Twist is once again naming balladeers and their respective songs. Also, am I the only one to find it a little odd that Twista says "When I touch her, she like" and then TREY says "Oh"? (Think about it a minute.) Another example is an obligatory Neptunes track called "Lavish", where Twista proves that he can't always rap over a slow beat. Yet another song for the ladies that fails is "So Lonely" featuring Mariah Carey. I don't know what's up with Mimi's voice on the song, but she kind of sounds like a wannabe version of herself. Speaking of weird hooks, "Had to Call" features a chorus sung by somebody named Sleepy Eyed Jones, and he sounds like, well, it's kind of like the equivalent to how DJ Premier would sound if he tried to sing. There are also some songs that badly use samples, especially the aptly titled "Do Wrong" (with Lil' Kim), which borrows a sample from Al Green's "Love & Happiness". And "I'm a Winner" terribly samples R. Kelly's "One Me", and if that's not bad enough, Twista is even repeating some of the lines he used in "Girl Tonite". But things aren't much better when he's NOT kickin' it to the females: the title track doesn't go anywhere, and Syleena Johnson's hook adds nothing to the song. "Heartbeat" is a little too violent (especially because the song opens with a long round of shots), and "Check That H*" has a wack chorus. And "Holding Down the Game" is a bling-blingin' song that is unnecessarily screwed and chopped in the middle of it -- and anyway, if you wanted to hear someone rapping slowly, you wouldn't pick up a Twista album, would you? The only song really worth hearing on the whole album is "Get It How You Live". It's nice that Twista is still trying to do his thing, but I heard this album one day last week and then I had no desire to listen to it again the day after. Anthony Rupert

Good......for an R&B cd.,
By Solty (Louisville, Kentucky United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Day After (Audio CD)
I think Twista wanted to run with the success of Slow Jamz from his Kamikaze album and make a new album with that formula. What he didn't realize that just because that song was good, the rest of his Kamikaze album was diverse and had a lot of substance. This time around, he just released a straight R&B album, save a few tracks. There is barely any Twista that we've grown to know. I can understand if he wanted to put one or two songs on there for the ladies, but practically the whole album?! Come on man, it's like Danny Devito starring in a romance movie. He needs to stick with what he's good at. Let's hope his next album will be more of the Twista that we've known in the past with hard beats and fast flows that didn't have 95% R Kellyish lyrics.
