5.0 out of 5 stars Margaret - Melbourne Australia
A great book! However, I found it amazing to read the first reviewer who gave it such a low score - did we read the same book? I normally prefer to read murder/suspense novels but thought I would give this one a go - take my word for it, if you want to have an enjoyable read, don't go past this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Enough!
This is a tragic story. I don't mind tragic stories, but this one NEVER stops. It contains one tragedy after another and I found myself at first exhausted, then confused, and finally amused. It's like the author decided to throw EVERY possible tragedy at these characters to see how much she could test them (and her readers)!

This one has it all.....rape,...

It's like the author decided to throw EVERY possible tragedy at these characters to see how much she could test them (and her readers)!

This one has it all.....rape, misunderstandings, addiction, death, lies, betrayals. Yep, there all here in spades! The HEA finally arrives, but by the end of this book I was so excited to end the torture that it was all I could do to not stand up and cheer from relief when it was over!

The main characters are likeable (which probably is why all their suffering is hard to take). The villainous father is truly vile and evil and there are a host of characters that played secondary roles that were unnecessary and took away from the story. Overall, not really recommended unless you're in the mood to read about one couple's MANY obstacles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievably GREAT book!!, July 5, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Day In April (Paperback)
WOW!! Where do I start? This was an incredible book. A book you just cannot put down!! This is one of those books you remember for a long time. I can't even begin to describe the story because it is so full of things going on in the lives of two families as they grow from babies to adults. The kids fall in love really young, plan a wedding and life together, when the unthinkable happens to Beth which sends her off to another town to live, and in steps her best friend to take over her place..when she finds out she can't have a child, she asks Beth to be a surrogate for her and Beth's old sweetheart. Then the best friend dies, leaving the baby alone with the old boyfriend but he doesn't know that the love of his life is the real mom of his baby. Whew!! Are you confused yet?! What an incredible book. You've got to get your hands on this one coz it's one of the best page turners ever. You'll find this one really hard to put down. A 10+

1.0 out of 5 stars Someone pass me an anti-depressant -- STAT!, December 11, 2000

This review is from: Day In April (Paperback)
Reading this book had to be the most painful, gut-wrenching experience of my life. The tragedies and sorrows just kept coming and coming! I mean, I don't need for the books I read to be all sweetness and light, but this was ridiculous. It seemed to be a test of how much misery one human being can endure before they give up and/or kill themselves. True, the romance was there, and it was powerful, but - jeesh!!

So, to sum up, if you're an avid reader of depressing Oprah-recommended fare and tragedy in general, this book is all for you.

As for me and my reading buddies, we're saying, AAHHHH!! and running the other way. Fast.

5.0 out of 5 stars All time favorite book!, January 13, 2011
This review is from: Day In April (Paperback)
It has probably been over 10 years since I read this book, but it has never dropped it's status as my favorite book. I came on this site today to try to find more books by Mary Lynn Baxter because over the years I have found it increasingly more difficult to purchase her novels at books stores. Read this book if you want a book that will draw you in and never let you forget it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully written, wonderful, touching, September 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Day In April (Paperback)
I discovered Mary Lynn Baxter's books last year and I have to tell you that I have not been disappointed yet. I happened to be in the store a few days ago and saw this book and I got it because it sounded interesting. Then I went away for the week-end and I took it along and I was hoping I would get a few minutes to read it. I picked it up Saturday night and could not put it down. It was so great, I cried almost through the whole book. It was so tragic, so touching that I could not believe that I would be so moved by this book. I did not want to put it down, it was so wonderful....This is one book that I will read over and over again and have plenty of hankies while I am reading it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic read!!!, July 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Day In April (Paperback)
After reading most of the books by the mainstream authors (i.e., Garwood, McNaught, Roberts, Howard, etc.), I found it difficult to get a really good book to read--I mean, a book that's impossible to put down until you've finished reading it. So, I took a chance on Baxter, chose "A Day in April" b/c of the interesting synopsis and the constant 5-star rating by others, and this book is worth paying $6. This book is too interesting to skim and memorable that you'd want to read this again (after a reprieve, of course).

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Yet By This Author IMHO....4.5 stars, April 25, 2008
This review is from: Day In April (Paperback)
Warning, if you were looking for a light read skip this one. It may depress you lol.

A DAY IN APRIL is a one big tear-jerker of a romance novel with a HEA. The emotional pain the heroine goes through is heart felt by readers, the scenes beautifully written, her torment will have you weeping, keep a tissue handy while reading this. As is the norm for this author, the sensual scenes were extra-steamy, the hero very sensitive and tortured, I can't say enough good things about this book!

By far this authors best book. 4.5 stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars That is what happens!, October 23, 2005
This review is from: Day in April (Silhouette Big Summer Read) (Paperback)
It was heartbreaking to read that Beth Melbourne went through all those heartwrenching events, being raped, her father having a nasty stroke that paralyzed him and her calling off the wedding to Zach Winslow, that would of broke most of us in half. She hung in there by going to school and owning her own business and holding on the shares of the papermill, for her vegetated father and her brother. And to read that it all worked out in the end made my heart cry for her because it took so long(17-years).
