I was there,
By Michael M. Munn (Dallas, Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Day Christ Was Born and the Day Christ Died (Hardcover)
In reading Jim Bishops' book and referring to the maps included in the front and back as I read, I found that I was there. I was transported 2000 years back to the most infamous day in history and watched the events of the last 24 hours of Christs' life unfold.I have given away dozens of copies of this book over the years since I discovered it and have never had anyone not come back to thank me. I reccommend this book to ANYONE who will read it regardless of their beliefs. In it's own way, it has sometimes had a much more profound effect upon those that choose to read it than that of the bible itself. If I were told I could no longer read the bible but could choose one book to take it's place, Jim Bishops' book would be the only choice I could make. It contains within it the complete story and reason for His coming and His murder. I take time to read it every Easter season and have not yet failed to experience again the awesome chills and overwhelming emotions I felt the first time I read it. It is the most incredible single work to come from the 20th century.

Both books combined into one hardback will be hard to beat,
By A Customer
This review is from: Day Christ Was Born and the Day Christ Died (Hardcover)
A priest first recommended "The day Christ died" to me in about 1989. He said I would be pleased with the book, and I was. I followed up with the other Jim Bishop book "The day Christ was born" and was equally satisfied. Both books were paperbacks I checked out from the Churches library and I have wanted to own the hardback myself for many years, and have finally found them. I'll buy them and re-read them again over the years. Terrific entertainment that makes you feel as if you were actually there. Also great books for volunteer teachers of religious education programs to make classes interesting.

A truly humanistic perspective of our Savior's last days.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Day Christ Was Born and the Day Christ Died (Hardcover)
The Day Christ Died is a detailed - intensely dramatic story of the times, thoughts and prespectives(which have been thoroughly researched)of the Savior, His Disciples, religion, govenment and the world in general during last hours of Christ's days on earth as God in the Flesh. It has given me deeper strength in my faith through understanding what He endured because of his love for us sinners. A God in the flesh with all the pain and emotions of man, but still a diety. A must read!

The Day Christ was Born/The Day Christ Died,
By Randy Roach (Chattanooga, TN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Day Christ Was Born and the Day Christ Died (Hardcover)
Jim Bishop has given new, rich meaning to Christmas and Easter with these two wonderfully vivid accounts of Jesus' birth and death. His research and beautiful writing style has helped these stories come alive for me in a very memorable way. I enjoy reading these books every Advent and Lenten season to prepare for the joy of Christmas, the pain of Good Friday and the amazing joy of Easter.

Like Reading a Newspaper Account of Christ's Life,

This review is from: Day Christ Was Born and the Day Christ Died (Hardcover)
Jim Bishop was an American author who wrote historical novels about significant figures in history. He is perhaps most famous for his book on the assassination of President Lincoln The Day Lincoln Was Shot. He wrote two Christian novels, and both titles are included in this one volume. "The Day Christ Was Born" gives the historical background to the birth of Christ. Bishop does not just focus on the actual day of the birth, he also includes plentiful historical background information as well, which fills out the story nicely. I think the better of the two volumes is "The Day Christ Died". This is the lengthier of the two volumes, and the most detailed. I learned more form this book than many Bible studies on this subject. Again, the events leading up to the crucifixion are explained, and this give the reader insightful information on the entire week which led to the crucifixion of the Lord.
Bishop writes as though he were writing for a newspaper story. He does not insert his own point of view, nor dramatically include his own emotions. Rather, he writes about the primary event aas if he were a dispassionate observer. I learned a lot from both stories, but especially enjoyed the latter novel. After reading Bishop's account, the Gospel writings come alive in my mind. konedog

More Understandable Than the Bible,
By
This review is from: Day Christ Was Born and the Day Christ Died (Hardcover)
This book was well researched and well written. It took a subject that is often confusing and frustrating and made it truly a story. A story that is understandable and not forgettable. Could this story be more accurate than the short ones we have read in the Bible? Jim Bishop skillfully brought together historical data from archeological digs, literature, and linguistics that may give a well-rounded account of what really happened. The four authors in the Bible have provided our best view of the amazing birth until this book was written with the help of thousands of researchers. Before any person tries to tackle the Biblical story, this book should be read thoroughly.

Inspired works.,

This review is from: Day Christ Was Born and the Day Christ Died (Hardcover)
These two books put together are fascinating looks at the beginning and the end of the life of Jesus Christ. Using all available information from the Gospels, history, Jewish law and customs, archaeology, and the authors own furtile imagination the stories unravel in part historical recreations and part novels. Bishop melds everything together so well that you get drawn into these intense stories. Although one must remember that some of the story includes pure speculation on the authors part, they were thoroughly enjoyable and educational and I highly recommend these two works in one to anyone even remotely interested in this area of Christianity.
