2.0 out of 5 stars Weakest Rizwan Muazzam Album, December 14, 2004
This review is from: Day of Colours (Audio CD)
This is the weakest of the traditional Rizwan Muazzam albums. Firstly the recording quality is bad, it was recorded in pakistan and is extremely muted. The upper half of the frequency spectrum is completely absent.

Nusrat fans will recognize song 1, which Nusrat called "To Karimi" which is on the "final recordings" album. The last song is the traditional "Rang Hai Nai". The rest are new Rizwan-Muazzam songs. There are seven songs on this cd, about 10 minutes each, which means they have to squeeze in the performances. This makes for lackluster performances of the songs here, not too much improvisation. The singers don't seem in improvising form during this recording.

I'd recommend getting "Sacrifice to Love", for those who are just exploring this group.

3.0 out of 5 stars Moderately interesting but not really exciting music, July 15, 2004
This review is from: Day of Colours (Audio CD)
This album is an offering from the nephews of the late very famous qawwali master, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. The brothers Rizwan Ali Khan and Muazzam Ali Khan recorded a selection of a Sufi Islamic devotional music in Persian, Punjabi and Urdu.

It sounds a cross between the music you'd expect from Pakistan--a bit Indian, a bit Persian, a bit Arabic. By far the best cut on the album is "Life and Soul." The music is harmonium, tabla (drums) and vocals. This would be of interest to those who like Islamic devotional music. The singing is heartfelt. I rate Three Stars, not for quality, which seems excellent, but because this world-music CD is of perhaps specific interest and not for casual listening.
