1.0 out of 5 stars Defective Binding
I am writing this review because within two months (and just a few uses) of this book pages began falling out like crazy. Apparently returns are only permitted for about a month from the purchase, so I'd have to pay return shipping for a partial refund. It's a shame because the book's content is excellent, but the binding is clearly defective. Hopefully, the publisher...

I am fully satisfied with purchasing this book. The book would be easiest to use for experienced crafters, but there are projects ranging in all skill levels. It is well-organized and contains both authentic and more modern Day of the Dead crafts. Some patterns are included in the back.
There are brilliant pictures that can be both instructional and wonderful for inspiration. The actual projects have step by step pictures and text, as well as extra information for fixing 'mistakes' or enhancing the overall creation. The best projects will take time and patience, but the outcome is well worth the work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique and inspiring!, October 9, 2008
This review is from: Day of the Dead Crafts: More than 24 Projects that Celebrate Dia de los Muertos (Paperback)
I'm excited about making the projects in this book! Because they are true
folk art, I'll be able to display them in my house all year round, not just in the fall. I'm working on my first calavera (skeleton guy) and
plan to make as many of the jewelry projects as I can and give them to
friends as gifts. I'm no great crafter. Why hasn't anybody published a book on Day of the Dead crafts before this? I can't imagine!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!, October 9, 2008

I already own this book and its so cool I bought a copy for my sister. The projects in this book range from the traditional (typical skeleton calavera) to the unique (Day of the Dead Jewelry). The book is colorful, and interesting with easy to follow step-by-step photos of the projects. As an artist I find this book a terrific resource and very inspiring...love it!

Great ideas in this book! Some might be too complex for a Spanish classroom but perfect for an art classroom trying to do a unit on other cultures. I'm doing the clay bodies with a Spanish class right now for the first time. I hope it works. I might consider other projects in the future when I have time to plan and order supplies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Day of the Dead Crafts 24 Projects that celebrate Dia De Los Muertos, March 6, 2011

This review is from: Day of the Dead Crafts: More than 24 Projects that Celebrate Dia de los Muertos (Paperback)
I have purchased many Day of the Dead crafts books in the past but this is by far the best Day of the Dead crafts books I've come across. Each page filled with large step by step instructions with beautiful photos and examples. There are some great and easy to use patterns in the back of the book, and a helpful resource guide for further study and fun. I actually borrowed this book from my local library, and within 10 minutes of browsing through it, I was ordering this book on Amazon. I had to have it.
My family creates memorial alters each Day of the Dead for family members who have past away. It is a time of remembrance and getting in touch with your family roots.Young children can hear stories and help with these fun crafts which remind us that our family members who have past on are only a thought away and craft project away. I give this book my highest recommendation. Have fun!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but perhaps a bit lacking?, August 11, 2009

I enjoyed this book, and it has a lot of fun ideas, but the coolest items pictured in the book did not come with directions on how to make them! Don't get me wrong, the projects in the book are cool, but are pretty basic and not terribly challenging.

I was hoping for directions on more challenging projects, larger photos of the items that do not have directions, or more design ideas to use as embellishment on the projects provided. (The template section at the end is relatively short.)

I'll keep this book on my craft shelf for ideas, but I'm going to keep looking for additional books to use as source material.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Ideas, February 7, 2011

I'm a jewelry artist looking for inspiration for Day of the Dead projects and this is loaded with fantastic ideas I can incorporate into my own designs. I can scale down many of the larger projects for my own unique art.

Before reading this book I knew nothing about the history, symbolism and tradition of the Day of the Dead. I now have basic knowledge of this celebration that was taught in an easy to read format mixed with unique fun projects.

This book has ideas for clay sculptures, plaster skulls, paper mache masks, altars, memorials, jewelry and more. Something for every crafter!
