5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing..., July 5, 2002

This review is from: Day of the Death (Audio CD)
I saw this cd for 4 dollars while cruising the local cd shop and decided to pick it up just because of the excellent price. Not expecting too much, I took it home and stuck it in my stereo. I was blown away by all of the technical guitar riffs and solos, and the drummer for DBS is absolutely incredible with all of the various rolls and fills. And than there is the vocals. It is a perfect blend of yelling, singing, and speaking. DBS is by far the most talented of any band I have ever listened to. Even at full price, this cd is worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Different Than What I Expected, April 10, 2005
This review is from: Day of the Death (Audio CD)
I first though of Death By Stereo as yet "another carbon copy punk rock band", and I didn't listen to their music. I learned a lesson. Don't judge music by their album covers. It's the music that counts. I actually love this band. "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Salvation" and "Getting It Off My Chest" are great tracks, but I like "Desperation Train". This music is a mix of Atreyu and Rise Against, both good bands. The vocals aren't the best, but the music definitely makes up for it. Buy this and any album by this band. Also, there's a new album coming out by these guys really soon!

5.0 out of 5 stars corey haim rules, January 24, 2003
This review is from: Day of the Death (Audio CD)
Death By Stereo are the missing link between Iron Maiden and Madball. Their style consists of punk rock speed, hardcore break downs, and lush guitar arrangements... yet somehow they make it work. Singer Ephrem has a distinctive voice, another anomaly in today's scene. I guess they're lumped into the hxc category, but Death By Stereo are original, write great songs, and deserve alot more recognition. Best tracks: Testorone Makes the World Go Round, Holding Sixty Dollars on a Burning Bridge

If you dig this, check out their debut "if Looks Could Kill I'd Watch You Die", good stuff

This is my fav album of all time. In all honesty, I have not yet met someone who didn't love this band live or on CD. It's one of those rare albums that is able to bring so many different scenes and sounds together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not your typical hardcore........, January 31, 2002
This review is from: Day of the Death (Audio CD)
The minute I heard samples from the two Death By Stereo albums, I knew I was looking at a great, talented band. Death By Stereo's singing/screaming style might seem skeptical at a first listen. (One might think they have no talent whatsoever). In fact, Death By Stereo has amazing talent. Who else can blend the high energy, harmonic intensity of Punk with the screaming solos and ballad styles of Metal. Death By Stereo's guitar playing style can be compared to many metal bands complete with the soloing. But the energy, and intensity of punk rock is still there; alive and kicking. Death by Stereo is definitely intense, but harmonic and mellow at times. It's not just a bunch of yelling, and not your typical hardcore band. And there's no way you could say that Death By Stereo songs sound exactly the same. Old punk fans and new punk fans alike will need to check out this band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, March 9, 2001
By
This review is from: Day of the Death (Audio CD)
After listening to 'If Looks Could Kill...' I didn't DBS could top their first album, but 'Day of the Death' comes as close as possible. The songs are more musical, and longer than the tracks on 'If Looks Could Kill'. Dan from Eyelid adds great guitar riffs and acoustic breakdowns that weren't present on the first album, and Tim's drum work on tracks like "Desperation Train" is very innovative. Efrem's vocals are still amazing & distinctive & the lyrics are edgy, as expected. It seems like he knows the perfect time to switch tones; from screaming to talking to singing. Overall, an amazing Punk/Hardcore album from an outstanding band. There isn't a track on here that I skip over while listening to the disc, every song is unique is some way.

After getting "If looks could kill, I'd Watch you die" from a friend, i immediately got hooked on this band. The drumming is amazing, as is much of the rest of the music. You can tell this band really has fun playing together and don't care that much about playing a particular way.
"Day of the Death" is an amazing cd. Any drummer or anyone who enjoys percussion should pick up this cd. The lyrics are good and the vocals are somehow similar to System of a Down type. These guys are much better than System though. As a whole, i'd say this cd isn't as catchy as "If looks..." but it has its moments. Pick it up if you like bands like Thrice, Atreyu, Strung out, AFI, or any other hardcore punk.
