THIS BOOK IS GREAT. It made me realize how unhealthy my diet had gotten, how toxic white flour is, (the byproduct from bleaching flour creates the very same chemical that labs use to kill pancreas cells in lab animals,) and that I NEEDED to change my eating habits and what I ate. America's diabetes "epidemic" becomes so clear- remember how healthy people from other cultures come to the USA and develop the same diseases as we? We Americans are being slowly killed by all the unhealthy things in our food. If you start reading labels, you'll cringe at all of the gunk we ingest on a regular basis.
This book is excellent in that it explains things clearly and simply, and gives plenty of suggestions for healthy food alternatives. It points out the toxins in the foods we eat and how to avoid them.
There was a great article a few months ago in The New York Times titled, "Is Sugar Toxic?" A friend of mine who used to do diabetes research agreed with the article. We never used to eat so much sugar, and refined carbs as we do- and I blame the food pyramid that pushed carbs at the expense of fats... and now America's diet is a MESS! And what is behind all of the gluten allergies that are cropping up? Time to change!
You can eat delicious food without all the bad stuff in it. I have quit sugar and most salt, no more white flour or white rice, whole grains only, lots of organic veggies, read food labels religiously, and remember that I don't want to lose my toes to poor circulation.Read more ›
For example, day one says to take a break from sugar. OK, I've already done this. But even if I haven't, what should I be eating? The book doesn't tell you that. So if you are looking for a book that will detail a meal plan for you, this isn't it.
There's a lot of good information in the book, but frankly there was nothing new that I hadn't read in other books on the same subject. Because it does have some helpful information I am not rating it as being completely useless.
There is no way, in my opinion, that it was worth almost fifty dollars.
For about 20 bucks you could get "The 30-Day Diabetes Miracle: Lifestyle Center of America's Complete Program for Overcoming Diabetes, Restoring Health, and Rebuilding Natural Vitality", which I read and thought was pretty good. It has much of the same information, except that it is a plant based diet.
I'm not associated with Lifestyle Center of America, but I did attend a retreat in Arizona about 3 years ago.
I guess there isn't one book with all the answers and it's probably best to seek information from a variety of sources. I just wouldn't recommend this book.
information on changes to make. It points out the reason for the change and explains how it affects your body. I too have wasted money on book after book trying to get to the real truth on type 2 diabetes. I ordered this book from a card I got in the mail, thinking all along that I would review it and send it back. Instead after reading a few pages I not only continued to read the book, but began to hilight much of the advise. I have had the book five days and have dropped 5 pounds, feel better, and my numbers have come down to 89 before bed and 110 in the morning. I did not take any prescription medication the fifth day. I did not need it. To be safe I will continue to moniter. If you are sincere about curing or better handling your diabetes I really really recommend this book. I would rate it 10 stars.
I needed to understand what foods were doing to my body. WOW it is packed with great info. No fad diet...just giving up the junk!!! When you are ready for a healthy lifestyle get this book. It would also be great if everyone would read it...it would/could help people with all kinds of heath problems.
Had the good fortune to meet Dr. Ripich and found him to be a very caring practitioner who puts the needs and health of his patients above financial gain. Very unusual in this day and age.
No magic pill, but a solid guidepost on which to live the rest of your life in good health.
