No More Fear,
This review is from: The Day I Died: An Unforgettable Story of Life After Death (Paperback)
As a registered nurse working in long term care I have been with many people as they left this realm and traveled to the next. Some leave with their eyes filled with terror while others are at peace. I am recommending this book to the hospice agency that serves our facility. No one should be facing death or life without reading this book. Thank you Steve!!!

A good read for everyone,

I thoroughly enjoyed Sjogren's first foray into the more secular arena. His writing style is fun to read and easy to understand, but don't let that belie the wisdom in his ideas and words. His story is true and connects with a desire in all of us to be a better, kinder, more real person. I read the "dying to be a better neighbor" chapter on a plane and actually felt myself change in the way I interacted with the people I am normally so anxious to get away from- just a little bit of kindness and patience made the stress of traveling so much more enjoyable. Imagine what putting this wisdom to work in your daily life can do!

This is an excellant book about the meaning of life, and the encouragement to live a life to the fullest. I was not disappointed in the quality of the book; it's a fine read for those not already acquanted with "life after life" experiences. However, the title and Jacket suggest the book will be primarily about the dying and the immediate recovering experience. Instead, I found this book to be more of an evangelical inspiration book. If that's what the reader wants, this is a good one.

Must Read for anyone seeking more in life here & beyond,

The Day I Died was one of those books I could not put down. It inspired me on many levels, having been down some very challenging roads, none were even in the same ballpark as his. Steve's story of of living, dying, recovery, then even back into leadership again on top of it all, and the lessons learned about what really counts in life are above & beyond motivational. His experience is proof positive of what God & the human spirit is capable of.

An Absolute Must Read,

This review is from: The Day I Died: An Unforgettable Story of Life After Death (Paperback)
I read this book in one sitting. I couldn't put it down once I got started. Not only is it wonderfully written, but totally compelling and engrossing. I had to read the next chapter just to find out what was unfolding next in this real-life drama.
It is amazing what this author has been through. Just reading about his ordeal brought tears to my eyes over and over again. It seems like it could be a story of bitterness or brokeness at any moment, but it isn't. It is a message of hope, redemption and victory in the face of impossibility. I can't imagine a more inspirational story than The Day I Died for a person who finds himself or herself in the middle of some personal tragedy. It will not just lift your spirits; it will change your life. Although it deals with the most serious questions of pain, life, death, and the afterlife it's no downer. The author is witty and often even funny about his experience. You really get the sense that he is opening himself to the reading audience. His vulnerability is refreshing and encouraging. Not only do I highly reccommend this book to anyone and everyone, but I bought copies just to give away. It's that good!

An encouraging book, but not what I expected,

This review is from: The Day I Died: An Unforgettable Story of Life After Death (Paperback)
In this book, Sjogren states that he "died" and heard God's voice. He returns to life with a changed view of his priorities in regard to how he treats others, views his life, etc. Each chapter in the book is arranged by subjects (how his view of his work changed, his family, his wife, and so on.) These are insights that we all do well to think about.
The author does a great job describing what it's like to be severely injured and disabled, and learning to live and cope with major life-changes due to diminished health and physical ability. This would be a good book for those who have recently become disabled or had a traumatic injury, or for their friends/relatives. He also has strong views on the topic of living wills and the "right to die" movement. However, he only spends about two pages mentioning the actual details of his encounter with God, what he saw while "dead," etc. When people see the title, "THE DAY I DIED," this is what they expect to read about. I was a little disappointed that he didn't tell more of what it was like to have this experience of God, and I suspect other readers would agree. Other Christians have related their near-death experiences in book-length accounts (see "90 Minutes in Heaven" by Don Piper, or "Return From Tomorrow" by George Ritchie.)

Life changing,
This review is from: The Day I Died: An Unforgettable Story of Life After Death (Paperback)
Being in the medical field, I found this book completely captivating. Steve was so honest and bared his feelings in a way that caused me to reflect on where my life has taken me, and how I want to change the direction I am going.
A must read for everyone. It will inspire you to change, challenge you to grow, and acknowlege how quickly life can be altered. I will never be the same.

If you are looking for a life-changing experience you will find it when you read "The Day I Died." Steve Sjogrens real life story of life after death is so inspiring that you will be captivated from start to finish. I literally could not put the book down. This is definitley the most vulnerable, authentic and compelling story I have ever read. It changed me! I saw issues that I face everyday and it made me want to be a better person and to believe that I could be.

Don't wait to get this book or die before you learn some of the things Steve did when he did. I tend to run 900 mph like Steve confesses he did - to the detriment of friends and family - and what he learned about being a husband and dad really impacted me. Buy 3 and give them to friends.

Demystifying the Mysterious,

This review is from: The Day I Died: An Unforgettable Story of Life After Death (Paperback)
I just finished 'The Day I Died'. This man's story truely is remarkable and worth the read. There are a couple of reasons why I would recommend this book.
First, it is a practical book. Upon his return from the 'flatlines', he has good practical insight into getting more out of life. Second, he reveals a real connection between our life here and life after the grave. Our dreams, our regrets, our priorities and the people we live with everyday come into clearer focus from the vantage point of death. Third, he has great advise for making the life we have to live the best it could be, squeezing the most out of it. I would recommend this book to anyone who is going to die. It's a must read. |
