The new and improved Josh Brown, Dove award winning cd,
By
This review is from: Day of Fire (Audio CD)
First off being someone who grew up with Josh in Jackson Tn I would like to say I am very proud of him. He use to come over my friends house when we were around 12 yrs old. This was the time in his life when he was going through tough times with his parents. Then in high school he formed a band named Fork "I think" And then after high school came the Voodoo Hippies which eventually evolved into Full Devil Jacket. Full Devil Jacket's debut and only cd was awesome I recommend you to pick it up as well "FDJ cd has songs from Josh at a very dark time in his life, if you listen to the lyrics you can almost tell he is calling out for help" They opened up for Creed "Ever heard of them?" at this point in Josh's Life he was verry addicted to Heroin and overdosed while on tour. After completing rehab Josh tried to record FDJ second albulm but he just could not do it so he quit the band to come home with family and fiends. He attended church and turned his life over to God. Thus the rebirth of his music career "Day of Fire" When you see josh on stage you think wow heres a guy with the scars of his past right there for everyone to see "Tattoo sleeves on both arms skulls etc... It really sheds light on the fact that no matter how far down you get in your life God will meet you there and lift you up.

Answering The Eternal Question Of "Where Is He Now?",
By A. Estes (Maine) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Day of Fire (Audio CD)
After quitting the grunge-metal outfit Full Devil Jacket in 2001 to pursue Christianity, vocalist Josh Brown seemed to disappear off the face of the Earth. That is, until late 2004 when he re-emerged with his new group, Day Of Fire and their self-titled debut album. Fans of his previous work will mostly be happy. His voice sounds better than ever, and this new band, although not as hard-hitting, compliments him pretty well. It's more refined and more mainstream, but definitely a worthy listen.
Personally, I am not interested in this album for any religious reason (sorry), but because of Brown's voice. So, I really can't comment on his messages of faith. There are other reviewers that can do that better. However, his newfound spirituality definitely results in a more positive vibe in the music, which isn't such a bad thing. The first few songs, "Through The Fire" and "Detainer" are catchy, full-force hard-rockers that could pop-up as hits on any modern-rock station. "Cornerstone" and "Reap And Sow" sounds a lot like Full Devil Jacket material and will definitely please long time fans. "I Am The Door" is probably the only song on here I don't like. It just reeks of Def Leppard-esque arena rock a bit too much for my tastes. Overall, Day Of Fire's debut goes off without a hitch. Not much to complain about here. If you like grunge, mainstream hard-rock, whatever you wanna call it, this will most likely please you. However, I feel it's a shame Full Devil Jacket had to call it a day. From what I understand, Brown's bandmates had no problem with his beliefs, but it's a moot point now. Brown seems to have found happiness and that means more good music, so more power to him. Day Of Fire are a worthy successor. It's definitely an album that will hook you right from the beginning.

Familiar voice, better message,
This review is from: Day of Fire (Audio CD)
Since I've bought this album, it hasn't left my player. The voice sounded familiar to me, thus I looked into Joshua Brown's past. There I discovered he used to front Full Devil Jacket. Thought I didn't like Full Devil Jackets themes, I liked the sound. Now Joshua is back, reborn in both spiritually and musically. One of the true tests of a great album, is the ability to touch the listener differently everytime you listen though an album. I have had many different favorite songs. As of now my favorites include "Cornerstone", "I am the door", "Jacob's Dream" and "To Fly". "Through the Fire", a hard rocker, is a perfect choice to open the album. The lyrics to the songs are a testimony to the life change that Joshua has undergone. That are an inspiration. Musically, this album captures the listener. I'm so glad to have had the opportunity to discover this band. Enjoy.
