About the Author

Robert Stone grew up hiking and backpacking in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Northern California. As a boy he learned and practiced the basics of wilderness survival and low impact camping. Robert has lived in the Rocky Mountains of Montana since the late 1970s. When he is not traveling, he continues to horsepack and hike extensively throughout Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park, and the Beartooth Mountains. His love of travel and deep interest in the outdoors led Robert to work on hiking guides year-round as a writer, photographer, and publisher. He has hiked every trail in every Day Hikes book.

For more than a decade, veteran hiker Robert Stone has been writer, photographer, and publisher of Day Hike Books. Robert resides summers in the Rocky Mountains of Montana and winters on the California Central Coast. This year-round temperate climate enables him to hike over 200 trails throughout the year. When not hiking, Robert is researching, writing, and mapping the hikes before returning to the trails. Robert has hiked every trail in the Day Hike Book series. With 20 hiking guides in the series, he has hiked over 1,000 trails throughout the western United States and Hawaii.

most of the hikes listed are widely found in many other sources. thse that were unique, had vague descriptions and were very difficult to find (i.e. bad descrptions to trailheads). all in all, a dissappointment.

The review prior to this sums up my thoughts pretty well, though I did enjoy having a book devoted just to the trails I was hiking. Looking back however, I'm not sure it was THAT great because half the trails are useless for most people.Overall the book lacks new substance and/or locations worth the average visitor's time on Maui.

For anyone who really wants to get off the beaten path and hike, I'd suggest Maui Revealed, Maui Mile By Mile, and Maui Trailblazer in that order. All three are excellent guides which include hiking amongst many other great things.

Easy, simple to follow guidebook with some really fabulous hikes. Black and white photos (a few), and basic maps that are easy to follow.
