Whether you are on a private river trip or a paid commercial trip, this is a valuable tool for side hikes from the river. Most of the routes are inaccessible from the rim, so don't confuse it as just another Grand Canyon Hiking guide. If you are going on a river trip, it has lots of hikes that you may/may not have ever known about. They range from short 1/2 mile or less hikes to some full day loop hikes. The descriptions are very specific, giving hints of how to get around pour overs, chock stones, and other obstacles, and describing level of difficulty and exposure. It also makes recommendations based on the seasons,such as which ones not to do during monsoons or the threat for flash flooding. It also gives information on campsites along the river and how to approach them without getting swept past.

I actually bought this after seeing one someone else had. I rafted down the Grand Canyon with a tour group for 7 days, and got this to relive the experience. Good mile by mile of the canyon.
