Great book! I really liked the geographic coverage - although it has in-depth coverage of the North Cascades, it also includes a few hikes in the San Juans and lowland Puget Sound, which is great for those days where I'm going somewhere different. The book did a great job of presenting the hikes visually - the maps were clear, and it was obvious which trail was which when two hikes shared a portion of trail before branching apart. Plus, when two hikes were substantially similar, the book didn't pretend they were different hikes in order to exaggerate the number of hikes included, and instead just described them side by side. I've already done a number of the hikes included in the book, and can't wait to try some more. Bring on the summer sun!

My wife and I really enjoyed this guidebook. We're from California and went camping in North Cascades National Park, and wanted some tips on good day-hikes in the area. This guidebook was excellent. The star ratings were easy to use, the elevation profiles very helpful, and the hike descriptions were outstanding. There is a range of difficulties included, from easy to very challenging. We also bought another book "Best Short Hikes in Washington's North Cascades and San Juans" and this was far superior in the quality of information and quality of hikes listed.

My husband and I hike a lot, that being said, we have a lot of hiking books. The 'Day Hiking' series is by far our favorite and the North Cascades version doesn't disappoint. We thought we lost it so I bought another one because we can't be without it. We ended up finding our previous copy so we now have one to keep in our RV and the house. Yes, it's that good it's worth having two.

An outstanding guide book for the new comer. Craig Romano's rating system makes it easy to choose the right hike. His descriptions of the trail, and directions to the trail head are ACCURATE. The book itself fits easily into a day pack. Comparing this guide to others my wife and I have used in the Teton's and the Rockies, this book should be the model for all trail guides. We just returned from the Cascades and after two of the more strenuous hikes I feel that this guide helped make it a very successful trip.

The minute you start reading this book, you will want to get your boots on and go hiking. Of the 20 or so hiking books I have, this is the very best. I am going to the North Cascades July, 2011 and plan to do as many of the hikes as I can work in. Enjoying reading until then.

I frequently check hiking books out of the library, and found myself wanting this one over and over again so I had to buy it! This is absolutely my go-to hiking book. The trails are accurate and well-described, and the book includes a ton of great hikes that aren't well-known so you can choose to avoid the masses if you so desire. I've hiked several of them so far, and am carefully marking them off in the front. My goal is to do them all!

This is a wonderful resource, as are all of Craig Romano's books. One of the best details of this author's books is the listing of less-popular hikes that I can't seem to find anywhere else. It's nice to have an opportunity to get away from some of the crowds. This author's writing style is concise and to-to-the-point but still entertaining and descriptive. Along with specific details such as hike rating level, elevation gain, hike features, and overall distance, Craig Romano covers all the neat things to look out as well. My hiking group (PNW Leisure Hiking), my family, and I spent a lot of time exploring the North Cascades with this book last year, culminating in a camping trip at Bedal campgrounds to explore a few more out-of-the-way areas as well. This book is a wonderful resource for any Washington day trekker!

Craig writes the bibles for hiking in the NW. He gives great descriptions and accurate information, and I reference his books for all my hiking in the NW. North Cascades are absolutely amazing and I'm currently using this book to plan my next 4-day hiking trip.

These books are amazing! This is my go-to book for the N Cascades. I never hike without the one for the particular region ( I have almost the whole series). They have color maps of where the hike is located plus a cheat sheet in the front of the main draws of the hike (wildflowers, waterfalls, views etc) which is so helpful on top of in-depth information on the hike and tips for hiking in the area in the front! Its a must get.

Great book. Bought it to read on my iPhone so I'd always have the directions to the trailheads with me. The author knows his stuff and presents the hikes in an entertaining manner. I've done a couple of the hikes so far, and his ratings of difficulty, etc., are accurate. Highly recommended.
