I would like to take this opportunity to thank Hastings House for publishing "A Day I'll Never Forget" written by LaTania Love Wright. I received a copy of this book while attening a local Law Enforcement Memorial service where she donated 120 books. I saw the book and it took my breath away. I have a 3&1/2 year old son and it was hard to explain September 11th to him. All he could understand was that a plane flew into a building and everyone died. As a parent, this book was a releif to find something on a child's level to discuss the situation of the United States.
Being a Law Enforcement Officer and dealing with the public, it is a shame to see how many people in society think only of themselves and take our freedom for granted and don't realize it could be gone tomorrow.
This book tells kids that it is all right to pray and help out strangers in a time of need. A lesson America needs to take a refresher course on.
Again, thank you for publishing this book and thank LaTania Love Wright for caring about our kids and putting such a tragedy into words they can understand.

numerous children's books have been published following september 11, and I have ready many of them. I am sorry to say that Love Wright's book is one of the worst. I am sure the author had good intentions while writing the book - wishing to help children and their parents cope with this terrible tragedy. however the end result is less than satisfactory. to begin with, there is are some discripencies between the illustrations and the text - for example, the nararrtor in the story is a young girl, and at some point in the book the text says "I sat quitely and still as I watched TV". However, the illustratoin which accompanies the text is of a young boy! this specific illustration also bothered me deeply, because it featurs the child watching the attacks on TV all alone, with no adult supervioson what so ever. surely that cannot be a smart thing, and it definitely goes agaisnt expert advice. additionaly, the American egocentric approach is also evident in one of the iluustartions, where the text goes "America was under attack" while the illustration is of the world. It seems hard for us Americans to acknoweledge that America does not equal the world. there are other places out there with suffereing and tragedies occuring on a daily basis, which are largley ignored by America. Overall the illustrations are of a terriblequality, and the text leaves much to be desired. I think children deserve better quality books, especially when dealing with such a sensitive issue.
