I really like this movie, we all know a family like that!
DottyD.
Great storyline about dysfunctional family but how a mother's love does prevail.
Perhaps
And I have watched this about 5x's (that is how much I love this movie).

The storyline had a lot of issues that are going on in the world today with families. Some folks may be a little scared of issues like molestation, prescription drug abuse, falling out of love with your spouse, child abuse, jealousy and hatred in the family and other things that happens in the family that people dont want to talk about. BRAVO LIFETIME. I really think if they made this a movie for theaters it would've been a cult classic. It reminded me of the movie "Soul Food". You must have this movie in your collection. I will be buying it myself. My 80 y/o mother loved it and that's saying a lot coming from her. Thnx for reading my review and be blessed.

I don't know why this did not come to the movies, it has a great cast. This is a story any mother would love. I am a true Terry McMillian fan. I have read all her books and watch all the movies that where made from her books, I can relate to all of them. I am buying this movie for myself and for my mom. I have watched it 3 times already. Great movie, great story line. A must see!!! My husband also enjoyed it and agrees with me, should have came to the movies. I am glad I don't have to wait to order it.

Great Movie! Whoopi Goldberg is so down to earth. You really think that she is the mother of this crazy family, and you feel for her.

This was a movie based on the book by the same title by Terry McMillan, and for the most part, it stuck to it. Whoopi's character has a husband who has moved on from her to a younger woman with kids, her daughters are at each other's throats, and her son can't seem to keep it together long enough to stay out of jail. All she want to do is make them come together long enough to settle their issues, because she feels like the next asthma attack will kill her. In the end, they did come together, but not until all Hell breaks loose. Sometimes, things must fall apart before they can be put back together again, and this movie proves it. Wonderful cast and easily identifiable, totally loved it!!!

I'm a big fan of Whoopi, but not necessarily some of the movies or movie rolls that she has catered to over the years. For sure, Whoopi is naturally funny--but I simply adore what she can do on a serious note (i.e., "Law and Order: Criminal Intent" episode. I've seen this episode twice--and I still shudder at Whoopi's performance.). Comedians like Whoopi, Robin & Richard are the perfect poster children for heavy (bone marrow) drama. Kudos to Terry McMillan--and welcome back! The characters are well thought out; the script is intelligent, smartly funny…complex, but clear. The letter reading scene is heart-wrenching and most effective. Bravo and thank you to Tichina, Anika, Kimberly and Mekhi—and Ving! I do hope Miss McMillan can find her way to do the sequel of "Waiting to Exhale." Because, Terry…girrrrl, you know you can work a conversation between characters.

So my roommate introduced me to this movie this past Summer. And I have watched this about 5x's (that is how much I love this movie). To the creator and Mastermind of this film thank you! This film has opened my eyes to a lot of things that go on within African American Families that are left unsaid. In this film Whoopi played the mother who had realized that she had made some poor decision making as both a mother and a wife. Throughout the film she finds out that she don't have much longer to live so she tries to bring her children together so that she can tell them at once but as usual that did not happen. Moreover I LOVED LOVED LOVED this film and I encourage families to watch this movie. It can possibly help a dying family.

A great movie! All families fight like cats and dogs against one another; don't let there be a death, O"hell breaks out among the siblings. I bought the book long time ago and could not get past the first chapter because of the harsh profanity and language. I did not finish the book and pulled it out to read, but couldn't. A great selection of actors too.

I saw about half of this on tv and after waiting for two weeks for it to come back on I came to my old stand-buy AMAZON and purchased it. GREAT STORY, GREAT CASTING, JUST GREAT, GREAT. The ending with the letters is inspiring.
