5.0 out of 5 stars A Relief From the Mundane Garbage
I found out about Lizz Fields while on a search for new music. I'm sooooo tired of the music that is being put out these days... pure garbage!!! So I went to a website, and saw that 3 of her songs from this CD were free to download (mind you I never heard of Lizz Fields)... I took a chance, figuring if I don't like the songs I can always delete them. I downloaded the 3...

1.0 out of 5 stars Mostly at Night ----when I'm asleep
I bought this on a whim. I should have listened to it first.

The production sucks and she could have a great voice for the Lion King or some Broadway musical.

So I went to a website, and saw that 3 of her songs from this CD were free to download (mind you I never heard of Lizz Fields)... I took a chance, figuring if I don't like the songs I can always delete them. I downloaded the 3 songs, went on iTunes and purchased the rest!!! That's how amazingly touched I was when I heard the songs. Philadelphia must truly have something in their water because they just keep bringing the NOISE and the PHUNK!!! We have the Roots, Jill Scott, the Jazzyfatnastees, Musiq, Bilal, and now we can add Lizz Fields to the list. Her songs are refreshing and relaxing like a tall glass of iced tea on a hot day. If you are interested in listening to delightful tunes, add this cd to your Amazon.com cart... it's worth the purchase!!!

Lizz is another one of those new artists that you must not pigeon-hole by labelling her "neo-soul" or "jazz" or straight r&b. I had no expectations or comparisons where her music was concerned, the main reason I bought the disc is because I knew she's from Philly and I wanted to support her. Thank you Amazon for the interesting bio on this up & comer.

I suppose for those who may need a frame of reference for her type of music, think: Lina, Pru, Jerzee Monet - you know, the ones who came onto the scene AFTER Erykah Badu & Jill Scott.

I bought the disc in early December and have listened to it enough times to have developed a few favorite tracks: Simply Put, Selfish Tendencies, When I See Love (both tracks although the Cold Fusion Mix is HOTT), All My Mistakes, Silent Symphony (most comparable to a Jill Scott song)and Hey.

This is indeed an album that tells a story - it's beautifully written, sung and produced and at 11 tracks is succinct. If you can sample a few tracks before purchase, go for it but if you purchase it - be prepared to give it a chance, it's not music you can shove into any one particular genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars Transported to another world.., December 4, 2006

This Cd with it's heavy bass lines and exquisite surprises tucked mid-way within each song, is one of my favorites. The first 3 songs are AWESOME. Many others are notable. Track #8 "Selfish Tendencies" is raw. I was so excited when I got the Cd (at work) that I ran down to the parking lot to listen to it in my car. When the CD ended, I had to "shake it off" because I was in the zone. You feel like you've stepped into someone else's life - and that's what makes her music so special. This Cd is chill, unique and unlike your typical "never hear from them again neo-soulers". If you like complex beats, tight bass lines, a unique voice and lyrics that twist and turn - then this CD is for you. You won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lizz is the butta fo' the roll!!!!!, November 29, 2004

I don't know where Lizz Fields reigns from but she's definately reigning supreme in my book. Lizz is incredible. Her voice is amazing. The production is crazy. If everything goes right. Lizz will definately blow up like the twin towers. In terms of supporting this sista we have to we just have to show and prove this is definately a collectors item.

4.0 out of 5 stars purrtydarngood..., January 18, 2005
This review is from: By Day By Night (Audio CD)
...ackshully, i want'd to use a lil stronga language than 'darn' but amazon be done had a fit then and hauled me up on some charges... it's 2005 and my resolution was to be 'case free' for AT LEAST 6 months...

okay... thats waaay off topic... my bad.

lizz fields (not to be confused with lizz wright/which i've accidently done on a couple of occassions) has been a bright spot amongst some of my more recent purchases.

she dint start off that way tho! ... i thought, "daggone... not ANOTHER phillysoulsanger... sh(oo)t!!! they shakin that tree a lil too often now!" i was quick to compare her to a younger jill scott (like jill is all'a the sudden ancient or somethin!), but they DO sound awfully similar at times... but is that such a bad thang, i mean REALLY now???? ... so after i got off my high horse and played this thang for more than a couple of days, i really became impressed with this lil sista's skills...

..."purrtydarngood" comes back to mind...

the production has grown on me and i think that might be the only real thang preventin me from givin this five stars, but everythang on this is muchmuch better than what you'll find on your fm radio stations or video channels...

neo-soul has become such a bad word nowadays... but it still remains one of my most favorite sounds. the problem with 'neo-soul' has more to do with the 'gimmick-try' of it and not the honest down to earth artform it should be.
this aint that "late night lounge/girl, you gonna mess around and meet my mama" smoothness im accustomed to, but you can still lay back in the cut with this... maybe get a lil dreamy eyed all by your lonesome or reminisce on some romantic-ish with your favorite lil somebody-you-like...

...

lizz does her thang on this... you caint expect her to give any more than the heart and soul she displays with this release.

AND PLUS SHE SPORTS AN AFRO on the cover... and yall KNOW how im a such a sucker for that!

peace.
