Rainy Day Love.....,
This review is from: The Day It Rained Hearts (Hardcover)
Cornelia Augusta couldn't believe her eyes as this unusual downpour began. Instead of water falling from the sky, it was raining hearts. She caught bunches of them in her hands and slicker, and took them home. After examining her hearts carefully, Cornelia Augusta knew just what she wanted to do with each and every one of them.... Felicia Bond has brought back her 1983 picture book, originally titled, Four Valentines In A Rainstorm, and it's as sweet and charming today as it was almost twenty years ago. Her simple and gentle text is kept to a minimum. The actual story is told through her engaging, bright and expressive artwork, as Cornelius Augusta plans and constructs the perfect Valentine for each of four special friends. Preschoolers will enjoy watching her create each unique card, and guessing as to who will be receiving it. With a Valentine sticker page at the end to help your little ones get started on their own special Valentine cards, The Day It Rained Hearts is an endearing holiday book that shouldn't be missed.

Creative Reflected in a Not-Only-Valentine's Day Tale,
By Julie Jordan Scott "Writer, Life Coach - Owne... (Bakersfield, CA United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Day It Rained Hearts (Hardcover)
My six year old took the board book version of this book out of my hands. I meant to read it to my two year old son. Instead,my first grader was enthralled with the illustrations, the story and the name of the loveable protagonist "Cornelia Augusta". I especially enjoyed how ALL the rainbow hearts Cornelia Augusta catches are ALL different so she can craft personalized, different Valentine's for each recipient of one of her precious gifts. The story is also a very opening one: there are always ways to create... no matter what the medium, what the celebration, whether the people are together or apart. Also, I think the 3-5 year recommendation is a bit young. My 6 year old really enjoyed it as well, the language was perfect for a first grader.

Gives Children the idea of Sharing,
By
This review is from: The Day It Rained Hearts (Hardcover)
It rains an abundance of hearts one day and
Cornielia Augusta catches them and brings them home and figures out who she wants to make things for. She makes a necklace by stringing them together, then cuts holes in one and as the story goes on, the children try to guess who she made the valentins for. It is simple and cute and give the children ideas about doing nice things for their friends. ellen

Sends a Message of Thoughtfulness and Friendship,
By
This review is from: The Day It Rained Hearts (Hardcover)
My mother bought this for Valentine's Day this year for my, then 2.5 year old, boy-girl twins and my kids love this book. It is May and we still read this book at least once a week.
The fact that little Cornelia looks at each heart and creates a special valentine card that matches the heart and the recipent shows thoughtfulness. I also liked that even though it never rained hearts again Cornelia wasn't disappointed or sad, but knew what to each Valentine's Day after that. Our book also came with a page of stickers based on the illustrations in the book.

Rained Disappointment!,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Day It Rained Hearts (Paperback)
This book was very disappointing to me and to my Grand Daughter. It was written like a "first book for baby" even though it's supposed to be for the 4-8 year old age group! She just looked at me after I read it to her as if to say "you've got to be kidding!" I got other books for her, thankfully, as if this had been it my reputation for buying her great books would have been shot! Shame on Felicia Bond for this minimal effort.

This review is from: Day It Rained Hearts (Paperback)
This is a sweet story about making & sharing valentines. The main character collects a bunch of hearts when they rain from the sky. She turns them into creative, personalized valentines for all of her beloved friends. Simply a sweet story. Our family loves it!

This book is very sweet. The girl pictured on the cover catches hearts, then makes them into sweet Valentine's for all of her animal friends. I will be reading this in my son's three year old preschool class for Valentine's Day. I will also "create" the same Valentines she did to show them what they looked like!

Sweet and Thoughtful,

This review is from: Day It Rained Hearts (Paperback)
THE DAY IT RAINED HEARTS is one of the sweetest little books that I have ever read. Although I purchased it for my 3 ½ year old daughter for Valentine's Day, the love and lesson of this book is appropriate any day of the year. THE DAY IT RAINED HEARTS is a new favorite at our house, still asked for day after day as part of our bedtime ritual.
The author of THE DAY IT RAINED HEARTS is Felicia Bond, who is the illustrator of the enchanting IF YOU GIVE A MOUSE A COOKIE series. In THE DAY IT RAINED HEARTS, young Cornelia Augusta is walking a long when it begins to rain hearts. She catches one, then another, then many more; and she takes them home. She studies them closely and discovers that each one is unique. Their uniqueness captures Cornelia Augusta's imagination, and she uses them to make unusual and special Valentine's cards for her friends, each of whom appreciates her thoughtfulness. THE DAY IT RAINED HEARTS is a simple, charming story that connects with the hearts of young ones and their parents alike. The illustrations are outstanding: bright, colorful, and extremely imaginative. THE DAY IT RAIN HEARTS is endearing and tender; a perfect story to share with family and friends. In this day of prepackaged, store bought, mass produced Valentine's Day card, the time, effort, and thought that Cornelia puts into each of the individual cards is a delightful lesson. My wee one is enamored of this idea, and I realize that next year we will be making some very special Valentines by hand. THE DAY IT RAINED HEARTS is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

One day, it begins to rain hearts, and young Cornelia Augusta begins to catch them. She realizes that these hearts would be great for making valentines. We watch her think of many different kinds of valentines, and think about who each one would be perfect for. What I love about this little book is the thoughtfulness Cornelia Augusta demonstrates, customizing each gift to please a particular friend (and the friends all turn out to be members of the animal world!). My young daughter enjoyed figuring out who each valentine was for and why. Very cute!
