Heavier than a cyclop's stones,
By Jeremy Ulrey "Bangyrmfhead" (Austin, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Day of Reckoning (Audio CD)
Punk to the (hard)core, Diecast strip away everything that I find annoying about Biohazard and actually manage to improve on the remaining framework. With anthemic group choruses and lyrics promoting unity and self empowerment, Diecast straddle the line between hardcore and metal in a manner that's actually starting to become common again after a prolonged lapse since the mid-eighties. The result is a bit more modernized than what DRI and Excel were aiming at in their heyday, and though songs like "Singled Out" resemble something off modern rock radio's heavier moments, it's the type of song you know is too good (and too heavy) to slip into heavy rotation. Diecast exist far enough outside the popular consciousness to still be hip while staying close enough to the flock to lure the occasional sheep into the wilderness.

New Kings of Metalcore,
By "diecasted" (Indianapolis, Indiana) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Day of Reckoning (Audio CD)
First of all just let me say that Day of Reckoning has to be the most creative cd i have probably heard in a very long time. It seems to me that a lot of new metal acts are too busy trying to be as outrageous as they can with their music/lyrics, but Diecast comes out with Day of Reckoning and just totally blow you away with their extremely catchy sound. Diecasts sound is composed of their drummer who executes perfect double bass beats, but does not just pound on them all the time thruout all the songs, he actually makes a a rhythm with them which just sounds genius, throw that along with 2 great guitarists and a singer that leaves most new singers in the dust. Day of Reckoning is the best thing you can do for yourself right now if you love metal/hardcore. be advised though if you think there might be some soft songs to show off their " real" talent, then you are mistaken, there are no soft songs, only Diecast doing what they do best : making kick ... music with great riffs and drumming, and totally punishing singing. GET THIS CD NOW IF YOU HAVE ANY CONCEPT OF WHAT GOOD MUSIC IS!!!!!!!!!

Good Metal with Greater Variety than Many Metal Groups,
By Lonnie E. Holder "The Review's the Thing" (Columbus, Indiana, United States) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)

Diecast sings in a style like Hatebreed and Meshuggah, but not always. Occasionally on songs like "Disrepair" the group actually sings their music with harmony versus just screaming it. When this group hits its stride, it kicks behind.
The riffs here are challenging and fast. Diecast introduces into metal riffs that are more generally in mainstream rock, yet they surround the riffs with enough heat to burn through steel. "Singled Out" is an excellent example. The music is so well done I can hardly describe it. The intro of the song and the chorus could remind you of Black Sabbath. Here the hoarse, throaty singing between enhances the harmonic singing. Groups like Hatebreed and Meshuggah could learn a lot from Diecast. Another song where Diecast shows their potential is "Remember the Fallen," a song about those who gave their lives during the Viet Nam war. The change ups in pace and vocal style throughout this song are indicators that Diecast is more than a one-trick pony. When "Solace" begins you could almost think you are listening to Black Sabbath. The music here is outstanding. However, the vocalization is too common in this genre, and does not use as much imagination as the group used on earlier songs. While Diecast is a bit too heavy for my aged blood, I consider them to be among the better of the thrash metal genre. In an earlier review I noted that Meshuggah might well be a successor to Black Sabbath. However, Diecast's music is probably closer to where Black Sabbath would have been had they been formed in the 1990s. Occasionally in songs like "Exacting My Revenge" I heard riffs that sounded very Sabbath-like. Even the singing style could remind you of Ozzy, but a manic Ozzy with a hoarse voice. Diecast has done a good job of incorporating a broader range of musical influences into their music than others in this genre. I hope they continue to refine their music, and follow where their artistic vision takes them versus a slavish devotion to a style that could ultimately be limiting. Note that this particular CD is imported. There are several versions of this CD available with various features and prices. Be sure you see what is available and determine which of the various versions is best for your needs before buying. Good luck! This review is based on a review copy of the CD.

THIS CD IS SICK,
By Ed The Great (Tracy, California United States) - See all my reviews

I gave it 5 out of 5 meaning it kicks a great deal of [butt]. It is heavy, yet still melodic. The only thing that [is bad] about this band is that no one knows who they are. Everyone who like real heavy music should. Thats all.

Easily the Heaviest Album of 2001,
By
This review is from: Day of Reckoning (Audio CD)
If you enjoy metal, the smartest thing you could do right now is buy this album. "Day of Reckoning," is as creative, as original and as heavy as Korn and Slipknot's self-titled debuts. Try to imagine the music that your ideal metal band would play and it won't even compare to Diecast. The band's success relies on the simplicity of their style: this album contains no guitar solos, no filler tracks, and no soft, emotional songs that demonstrate the bands "real" talent. The guitarists have a knack for writing fresh, original, grinding riffs, and their drummer supports them with excellent precision and thunderous double-bass pedaling. Plus, any band would kill for this lead vocalist; his range is undeniable and he screams with a gutteral rasp that other artists distort their mikes to obtain - think of carley coma from Candiria. Yet, what escalates this band from "very good" to "unreal" are the little things: the drummer exhibits wise discretion with his double-bass use, complementing the music but not overpowering it (except possibly for the last 30 seconds of "remember the fallen"). The guitarists have an arsenal of great riffs, as evident in the end of "desensitized" which continues past a perfectly good stopping point with another phenominal guitar progression. The singer demonstrates a versatility that is unmatched in rock today. Plus, the band has an uncanny ability to settle into just the right beat for their music, never playing too quickly or rushing the riffs. When you play this album, you're guaranteed to catch yourself bobbing your head during every song. All in all, Diecast has assembled an album which is as equally heavy and unrelenting as it is addictive. "Day of Reckoning" has one of the hardest opening riffs I've ever heard, and the intensity continues through the last note of the final song. They're also a terrific live act. Get this album now.

better than their new crap,
By blasting death Drew (Albuquerque, NM USA) - See all my reviews

I bought this album 5 years ago when it was first released. Until then, this was the heaviest music I had ever heard. Those were the days when I was listening to old Chimaira and old Dry Kill Logic and many other bands that started to die down after selling out. But anyways, this album is as brutal as it could have gotten coming from metalcore band in 2001. These guys paved the way for all of the so-called "metalcore" bands of today. Being around since 1997, metalcore was not even heard of yet, and they hit the ball right on the head. Brutal, listen to it at full volume and buy it already.

Hardcore kings,
By "jeremiahz" (Moline, IL) - See all my reviews

Diecast do what so many bands having been trying to do for awhile. From the first time I heard this album, I was instantly hooked. This album has hard riffs, and soft melodies. I saw these guys play at a local club and I was just overwelmed, by the intensity they brought. They played with headliners Chimira, but Diecast definitly stole the show. And there is very little production as well, they sound just like this live. If you want a compete hardcore album, this is it.

amazing, perfect, no words can describe this cd. it is beyond perfection, i love every part of this band, right when i blasted "disrepair" on my stereo i knew that this CD would be a great cd...there is no part of this band that has a flaw, the singer has an amazing range, and his screams are of the best, the guitars are kept simple, yet they hit you like bricks and are flat out amazing at the same time, the drummer is perfect, and doesnt overuse the double bass unlike most bands that use double bass, and the bass is pounding....my suggestion is to get this cd as soon as you can, whether you have never heard of diecast or were planning on getting the cd, GET IT NOW i garuntee you will NOT be disappointed!
