NYC's Finest New Band, February 23, 2003
This review is from: Day Sleeper (Audio CD)
Opening with a captivating instrumental track, Longwave's EP "Day Sleeper" draws in and envelopes the listener into the depth of the band's intricate sound. The second track, titled "Everywhere You Turn" is easily one of the best songs of the year, showcasing both musical and lyrical talent with a driving drumbeat and guitar line. "Pool Song," the mellow, easy to listen to third track, is almost like that of The Strokes, with whom Longwave has toured as opening act. It was on this tour that Longwave was able to grab the attention of record companies and signed a contract. Finally, the last track titled "State Of Mind" features a sound reminiscent of the old underground rock, yet modernized with guitar effects to create a completely unique sound for today's fans. If you think their recorded material is wonderful, definitely take the first chance you get to see Longwave live in concert. Not only have they opened for The Strokes, but also just got off tour with OK Go and The Donnas. They're a breathtaking band to see live, and they play with the furver of a band who loves what they do and has complete respect for the music they create. These 4 young men are going to turn many more heads with their album release on March 18 (February 24 - UK), so let yours be the first to take notice...

noisepop at its finest, December 18, 2002
This review is from: Day Sleeper (Audio CD)
Evoking the spirit of great UK bands like My Bloody Valentine, Radiohead, and Oasis, NYC's Longwave is one of the best of the new wave of noisepop bands. Their 2002 EP Day Sleeper is, well, a sleeper that needs to be discovered. Clocking in at 13 minutes, this is a brief but perfect introduction to an exciting band. The title track is 3 minutes of beautiful noise and melodic piano. Single "Pool Song" is very catchy and worthwhile; however, "Everywhere You Turn" is one of the best songs of the year, providing old and new school shoegazers alike with a reason for being. Can't wait for the major-label debut next year!

I love this EP. I can't wait for the full album. When I saw them live, Day Sleeper was the first song that they played and it really got me into the mood of the whole show...Catch a show, if you can..... they really put on a fantastic performance.
