Book Description

1585831018 978-1585831012 September 2001
An unthinkable event happened to the United States of America and its citizens on September 11, 2001. Terrorists hijacked four passenger jet airliners, each carrying tanks full of fuel and large numbers of passengers, enroute to destinations in western United States. The hijackers commandeered the planes and deliberately flew three of the planes to points where destruction was achieved: the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, next to Washington, D.C., the nation’s capital. The fourth plane crashed in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, just north of Camp David, the Presidential Retreat in Maryland. Efforts by the hijackers to cause additional destruction was thwarted by the heroic passengers of the airliner. Thousands of people were killed; destruction of property soars in the billions of dollars; but the resolve of the American people has swelled to a massive crescendo of support for the country. America will achieve!! America will persevere! America will stand steadfast and overcome the grievous loss it has sustained. To the families who have lost their loved ones; to the rescue workers who are undaunted and continue their efforts; to the volunteers who give endless hours of their time—America Salutes You!

As an historical publication, the pictures shown in the book illustrate the destruction, pain and suffering of the Day of Terror, September 11, 2001.

2.0 out of 5 stars TOO SHORT AND LACKS QUALITY., November 20, 2001

This review is from: Day of Terror, September 11, 2001 (Paperback)
Yes, this book does portray the tragic events of September 11th but compared to other books on the market, this one is very low budget and lacks quality. The horrific events are the same, no matter which publication you read, but many do a much finer job of portraying the events than this one. It is like anything else in life, we generally get what we pay for. This book is extremely short (48 pages) and lacks the dramatic photography and complete detail some of the other books contain. Compared to other books, this one was more of a "brief summary" as opposed to a detailed account. I would recommend "New York September 11" by Magnum Photographers before this one. It is an excellent portrayal of the events.

1.0 out of 5 stars Merely exploitative, December 16, 2001
This review is from: Day of Terror, September 11, 2001 (Paperback)
Of all the books that have appeared so far on the events of 9/11, this is the only one I've seen that really comes across as a one-dimensional, cynical cash-in. The thin (48 pages) paperback features photos (most of which can be found elsewhere) with captions seemingly written for grade schoolers and little else. There is no particular point of view (other than tragic loss) and the whole thing looks like it was cobbled together in less than an hour. You'll be better satisfied with any of the other books on the market, and, in particular, "One Nation" featuring the photographs of Life photographers or the volume of photos by Magnum photographers.

What can I say? This book has the heartbreaking picutres from 9/11 in the sequence of events as that terrible day unfolded. Whenever I look at it I am still astonished.
