Helping Kids become Environmental Activists,
By
This review is from: The Day the Trash Came Out to Play (Hardcover)
One of the best ways to teach kids lessons is to make them laugh -- and think -- by telling a story they can picture themselves in. With humorous and charming artwork and rhyme, The Day the Trash Came Out to Play describes a case of littering gone wild, as all the trash in town escapes their receptacles and "comes out to play." The litterbug learns his lesson and in the process brings his community together to practice the four "R"s of environmental activism: rethink, reduce, reuse, and recycle. It's a lesson all kids need to be exposed to and this book does it very well.

A desperate situation is in need of a diligent remedy,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Day the Trash Came Out to Play (Hardcover)
The Day The Trash Came Out To Play is a unique and whimsical picture book written by David M. Beadle and illustrated by Laurie A. Faust. Featuring an underlying message about the importance of cleaning up after oneself, the story begins when a young boy thoughtlessly discards a candy wrapper on the street of his beautiful home town. This starts an escalating cataclysm as, piece by piece, litter spreads out over the land. A desperate situation is in need of a diligent remedy before the whole town becomes buried under a strong-willed pile of trash! A most delightful story to share, The Day The Trash Came Out To Play would make a welcome and popular addition to both school and community library picture book collections.

The Day the Trash Came Out to Play,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Day the Trash Came Out to Play (Hardcover)
Being a retired elementary teacher I greatly enjoyed reading this book to pre-school and elementary age students. This book puts into context how we must keep cities cleaned up, picked up and looking nice. I believe the author and illustrator has done a great job in getting the point across in a level that ages 3 to 9 will enjoy.

Environmental Movement meets Traditional Values,
By Rob Simmons (Hickory, NC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Day the Trash Came Out to Play (Hardcover)
Wonderful book for children!Playfully focuses on personal responsibility with littering rather than the many abstract and gloomy environmental books I have previously bought for my kids. Although I am a strong environmentalist, I find other family members such as my father enjoy reading the book to my kids as well because it appeals to his more traditional values. Upbeat and rhythmic, it contains a message that I am certain my children will remember in their daily activities. Ready for the next one from this author! |
