Wow - a film that completely captures the gritty vibe of Italian crime thrillers (think 'Live like a cop, die like a man' & Lucio Fulci's 'Contraband'!! The violence had me looking away from the screen on many occasions. Good performances all round, with a cracking 80's synth score by Dave Andrews.

The film also features Italian horror legend 'Giovanni Lombardo Radice' (Make them die slowly, Gates of Hell, Cannibal Apocalypse). A real treat for the jaded action/horror fan!

I have seen on the film's official facebook page that this film is still doing the festival circuit and has won some impressive awards along the way. BEST FEATURE FILM (Germany, WEEKEND OF FEAR 2012), BEST SPECIAL EFFECTS (Brazil, CINEFANTASY).

Do yourself a favor and gets this gritty slice of mayhem.

Mostly amateurish and poorly produced. I can always tell when an indie is going to be bad by how long the shots are. If the producer spends thirty seconds on a shot that could have told the same amount of story in a few seconds, you can nearly always tell that they are either padding for run time or they don't know what they are doing. There are many such scenes like this in A Day of Violence. The acting throughout the film is mostly passable, but I can again tell when it's going to be bad by how the actors overact to appear sinister or angry. There's much of that in the movie too. It seems like with indie horror movies, you are either going to get genius or pure crap. While this film has some redeeming qualities like how it doesn't overly rely on bad special effects, it certainly leans towards the crap spectrum. For every Dead Snow 2 and Babadook, it seems like there are dozens of 4 and 5 star movies that clearly should be rated as 1 and 2 star movies. It's kind of disheartening for someone that loves and supports the horror genre. I've seen so many of these types of poorly written and directed movies lately that happen to have come with glowing reviews from Ain't it Cool News and other reasonably trustworthy reviewers that I've lost all respect for many reviewers and will be much less likely to purchase anymore indie horror movies in the future unless it's from a creator that I know is good or there is a lot of buzz from coming from all kinds of sources.
