A Good Edwards book, but definitely no the best,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Day I Was Crucified: As Told by Jesus Christ (Paperback)
I enjoyed this book, but I can honestly say that it is not as good as Gene's earlier title The Divine Romance. The depiction of Christ on the cross in The Divine Romance is much more gripping and edgy. While reading The Day I was Crucified, I felt like Gene was in a hurry to get Christ to the cross. Gene's other writings are notoriously more patient in delivery, and hence more dramatic. This book had the feel of being in a extreme hurry to get to the end.I would also like to throw in my two cents on several of the statements used here on Amazon in the above description of the book. I think they are a bit grandiose. I quote "The Day I Was Crucified stands out as literary excellence apart from virtually any books known in the modern era." That is a bit of an extreme statement to make from a book that is brand new on the market. Only time will tell this. Another "There has never been a more stunning, more heart-touching piece of Christian literature to be found in the English language as is The Day I Was Crucified." Who is writing this? This is rather self promoting if you ask me.

Great Christian Literature In Modern Times,
By
This review is from: The Day I Was Crucified: As Told by Jesus Christ (Paperback)
This book was the first book I have read by Gene Edward. In fact I stumbled across this author by accident. My view of this written work is that it is ... powerful and moving. This is one of those rare life transforming books. The words written by Edwards have recorded the crucifixion and the resurrection in way that the reader will be ushered into unseen realms to witness the power of the cross as seen from the view of God the Father. This could be a book which could take it place among the great books of christian literature. Someone has recommended Edwards book called, The Divine Romance" And I will them up on that recommendation. If this review has not been enough for you judge, then let me say this, " This book will surprise you... and when you finish the book, it will surely become one of your yearly favorites to read. For Those Who Are Down and Out,
This review is from: The Day I Was Crucified: As Told by Jesus Christ (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this book. When I started it, I didn't know what to expect. It literally kept me at the edge of my seat. It just kept on going. I seriously couldn't put it down, I had to know how it ended. It helped me, in my personal faith. It showed me another side of Christ. This book is incredible to me. It may sit there on the shelf, and people will pass by it. But then comes along someone who will see it, pick it up, look at it then buy it. Would it help them? It did for me. It gave me some hope in knowing that Christ gave himself up for me.

A wonderful, fictional account of Jesus' life,

WOW, I really liked this book. Yes, it is fiction so some of the minor details are changed or fuzzy.....but the Message is there - and it is the timeless message of Jesus.....with parables, insights, and even humor. This is a wonderful peek into what Jesus might really say if He were to be interviewed.
Well written and easy to read. I highly recommend it for those who like Christian fiction.

Worth reading,

If you want to know the facts about how and why Jesus Christ was crucified and rose again, read the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John in the Bible.
But author Gene Edwards creatively tells the story in this book as if from Jesus' point of view. I found the book thought-provoking because it gives a new perspective to the story. In the second part of the book, the four gospels are combined to tell the full story, from Jesus' betrayal to his resurrection.

To all of those reviews saying it didn't match up with the Gospel, I would like to point out this is obviously a FICTIONAL novel. Of course we don't know what Jesus was actually thinking, but this book takes a look into what he MAY have thought. I loved it. Very easy to read. I liked the short chapters. I have an infant and love to read, so these chapters were great; I could read a few then easily stop and pick up at the next chapter. I found lots of historical geographic and political references in this book helpful. One bad thing was, if you are not familiar with the Bible and read this, there are many things in here that are not facts, which I re-iterate this is a fictional novel, so read the Bible first! I will be reading more of this author.

Interesting, but could have been better,

I was pretty disappointed with this book. I guess a part of that stemmed from my expectations. I had expected this book to be a narrative of Holy Week and events leading up to and through crucifixion and resurrection, as told from the perspective of Jesus Christ. However, what I found is that the book sort of "gets into the head" of Jesus. The book chronicles the thoughts of Jesus throughout this time. I found this to be a style that was difficult to read, and came across as poorly written. This is a difficult topic to tackle and do well, so I give the author credit for trying. I did not find the book to be profound, but rather just poorly written. I aldo fel there were some areas in the book that did not jive with more typical Biblical accounts. I did enjoy the compilation of the four gospels which is found at the end of the book, however. I would say that the book is worth reading if you are interested in reading this history from a different perspective.

Insightful, Weird, Bad on Kindle,
By
This review is from: Day I Was Crucified (Kindle Edition)
I have enjoyed reading many of Gene's works, primarily the First Century Diaries. I found this book to be a good read, full of interesting insights, up until the strange emergence of a girl from the tomb. I'm sure this is Gene's metaphor for the bride of Christ, the church, but it was still weird.
The Kindle format of the book is very poor Odd line breaks abound (mid-word, mid-sentence, and mid-paragraph). Chapter headings show up in strange places and many chapter headings are missing (the first chapter heading I saw was #21). Finally, the title of the book appears in the midst of paragraphs throughout the book. All in all it makes for a difficult read.

When I was hungry and thristy I found this book .....,
This review is from: The Day I Was Crucified: As Told by Jesus Christ (Paperback)
I really like this book. I have found some good "Ah haa" and thought provoking moments. This is a book I have been telling many others about. Just in saying that ...it says GREAT read. I think many of us need to get back to the cross and really see, hear and feel it from Jesus the man. I love how Mr. Edwards has open my eyes up to another view point. If you want more of Jesus, read this book!

What a heart felt book to read. The emotional insight of what our Lord and Savior may have went though during his last days here on earth with his beloved people. Goose bumps are just one of the many feeling of joy I had reading this book, but there was also compassion for the pain and suffering we put him through. This is a definite book for my collection and should be in yours as well.
